A last ditch effort for an escape artist
Apologies for the very long review. Below you'll find a story of our trials with our dog and a bit of his story. I hope this serves as a kind reminder to owners looking for a solution to a "runner" that there is hope and to keep at it. With regards to the product, this is a top quality item and I've paired it with AmazonBasics' Tie-Out Cable for Dogs up to 125lbs @ 30'.----We adopted the most kind and obedient pup I've ever met almost six months ago now. His name is Kahn, and he's a 100lb Akbash. Originally purchased from a breeder, he cost his original owners $1,500, so because they gave him up at 14 months tells you just how bad his running habits are. Anyway, queue us adopting him because we do kitten fostering for the local humane society and they knew we had a dog pass of cancer a few months earlier that broke our hearts. Obviously we have to have a special kind of dog that works well with our fostering, and our foster contact knew this was the guy. They actually wanted to keep him at the shelter as a mediator dog because he would break up fights and in general just kept the other dogs in line. But, Kahn had other plans. Even his first home, a 40-acre mini ranch where he was being trained as a livestock guardian (what Akbash are bred for in Eastern Europe), he didn't have enough room to roam. He was hurting himself on the kennel fences, cutting up his muzzle and paws on the chain-link.So, of course we had to give this big guy a shot. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. We fostered him for a month, and in that time he escaped at least 20 times. He chewed through door frames, tore off handles, jumps our 6-foot cedar fence like it's a minor annoyance, and all the while I fell in love with him. But, we needed a solution for him. I was starting to get overwrought with fear he was going to get hit by a car, someone would steal him, or I was going to die of a heart attack.Behavioral issues aside -- he has severe separation anxiety -- we've been working closely with the humane society to find the right medication, training, and exercise for him, we still needed to take him out to potty without needing a leash every time. I could tell he was getting tired of that, and so were we. This stake was our solution, and try as he might, he just can't pull this thing out of the ground. It's been about three months now and I think he quite likes the freedom the stake gives him. We don't have to watch him closely every time we let him in the backyard, I can have him in the garage with me when working on projects because his stake is near the door, and he's only gotten tangled up in it once.

Superior to the screw-in type
Exactly as described, easy installation, and good quality. Works very well. Low profile keeps the tie-out cable from getting tangled around it, unlike the screw-in stakes.

Revolutionized the Way I Groom My Dog!
My dog has VERY thick fur and she hates getting haircuts. In the past, I used to just tie her leash to a doorknob and cut as much as I could, but that gave her too much leeway to try and get away from the scissors, which led to some very ... interesting haircuts for my poor doggo!!This stake was REVOLUTIONARY for haircut time!! It dug into the ground easily and held very well. She's a good 60 lbs, and the stake didn't budge an inch! She was able to walk around the stake, but, by staying close to the stake itself, I was able to get to different parts of her furry li'l bod without having to get up and reposition myself every three minutes! Great product!

Not good for large dog
This lasted 2 minutes with my 70Lb dog and this is rated to 100lb. Sorry but this product would only be good for small dogs, my dog bent it and ripped it out of the ground.

Works well
Works like its intended to. Paint chipped when using a regular hammer. But worked well for my 30lbs dog

Not for giant puppies
I think this would work great for regular size dogs. My 8 month Pyrenean Mastiff bent and broke this despite the fact it was in hard ground with cement and only an inch above ground - but he is a beast

Love this product
Love this product! This is the second stake I purchased, as the first stake worked terribly. It was one of those twisty ones that they say is so easy to install, all you do is twist it into the ground and voila! NOT SO. So I instead purchased this stake and I love it. I have a 30# shih-tzu mix, who despite his size is actually quite strong. I just moved into a cute cottage with the only downside being that there is no fence in between the houses so I needed something I could tie him to when he needed to go outside to go to the bathroom. He is an inside dog and I never leave him outside unattended, as he is a wanderer. So this stake, along with the tie out cable I bought, have worked GREAT! It has not budged at all from where we pounded it into the ground, despite all of my dog's best efforts. I highly recommend this stake to anyone! Great product!

We have a 60lb Pointer/Lab mix, so he's very ...
We have a 60lb Pointer/Lab mix, so he's very active, strong, curious, & energetic. We also have No fence. So it was either walk him or get a stake & tie out system. Got this tie out stake after taking in consideration of how active he is. Since there was no instructions that came with it & only the pictures in this ad. It didn't seem wise to only hammer it down 70-80% as in the pic(as so many people complained about it bending). I hammered it down with my masonry hammer until the dome was just touching the ground. It's worked flawlessly so far barely budging as he tries chasing squirrels, rabbits, etc.. The million dollar question is, how do you remove it? Either for replacement or permanent? LOL
