The Miracle of Trees (Wooden Books)

This is a beautiful little book - and beautifully written - with a lot of information packed into its small size. While many sentences are dense with scientific terms, there is a good glossary in the back which explains them; and I think this would be a very good book even for people without much science background, or for young people with an avid interest in plant biology.I realize that the size and format of the Wooden books are part of their charm; but it would be nice, as another reviewer noted, if the gorgeous engravings and diagrams in this book were larger, especially for those of us whose eyesight isn't what it used to be ;-)

I truly enjoyed this book. The only critique I could possibly have is that the type is rather small and takes away from the overall effect. But trees have always fascinated me. We can look at them all day long and not appreciate their majesty and contribution to our lives. I especially liked the author's approach of asking questions we all perhaps have wandered about, such as "Does a tree feel pain?", "Can a tree see?", "Is a tree greedy?" and "Do trees sleep?" I guarantee the average reader cannot answer these questions without giving an adequate information. But the writer does. and he does so delightfully.

This is a beautiful book. My only disappointment (my fault for not looking more closely at the description) is that it is small -- just 6" x 7". The illustrations are wonderfully intricate but would have more visual impact if they were larger, say 8x10 or 12x14 inches. I bought this as a gift. Fortunately the receiver is a stamp collector and has good magnifiers!

It is a small , very sympatic book about basic life of trees. The ilustrations are beautiful. I received the book on time and even if it used, it is in great condition - like new one!

I bought this as an art reference book which it will be great for but the woodcuts are magical and I have not been able to put it down. I didn't realise how complex trees are but I don't think I ever thought about trees in this way until I got this book. I love these Wooden books, wih more of them were combined like the incredible Quadrivium.

This is a gorgeous book with wonderful illustrations and charts that are full of great information. Only criticism is that the format is too small so that the tie on the charts is way too small - almost need a magnifying glass to decipher. The running content is very clear and concise (and type size if fine). Of course a larger format would cost more, but to me it would be worth it.

This is a lovely book. The science of trees is pretty complex but this book in twenty five sections, accompanied on the opposing leaf by some beautiful illustrations, just about breaks it down to an understandable level. There is a great logic in the 'bite-size' page by page journey through how a tree functions. It is only 60 pages and all the illustrations are black and white but this is still worth the money (as are a number of the wooden books publications). Maybe for someone with a wide knowledge of tree biology this book might not be for them but for the 'layman' it contains pretty much everything you need to know in an artistically set way. It as much a work of art as a science book. Fantastic!

Very pleased with this little book! This is a great series and I will be seeking more titles!

Das Buch ist zwar klein, hat aber sehr viel wertvolle Informationen über Bäume und dazu äusserlichst schöne Zeichnungen. Die Wooden Books Serie ist allgemein sehr schön gemacht und informativ, bis jetzt ist dieses Buch über Bäume aber mein Favorit.

Really really good little book...but needed a magnifier to appreciate the drawings...but a well written book...loved it...
