Yarniss Crochet Animal Kit for Beginners, Crochet Starter Kit with Step-by-Step Video Penguin, Dinosaur or Owl

I’m working to teach my niece how to crochet; she is 8 and rather intelligent for her age. I wanted to catch her interest in crochet by making little plushies that can go with her on her backpack since they are easily turned to keychains. We tried this kit during our family reunion and I’m sad to say we’re back to learning again next year because the directions were too difficult for her to comprehend, even with my help. I also found the acrylic yarn to be less forgiving for a novice beginner, and the hook to be small for her as she’s getting started. I wouldn’t say this is a kit to gift and walk away; you really need to explain the steps if they’re just starting out. I’m also not convinced she’s going to have enough yarn for her projects because her stitches may be uneven, or she loses yarn in her many attempts to get started. I’d say this is better for someone who’s gotten the basics down.

This set comes with everything you need to make multiple cute crochet plush toys but the caveat is it is not beginner friendly. As a true crochet beginner I had a lot of trouble following the videos. I recommend this product for someone with some crochet experience

This is a very well thought out set of instructions and carefully packaged - almost. I wanted so much to give this five stars! As a beginner I look for projects with quick results and easy to follow. This one hits the mark! The yarn is easy to use, and quality of hooks etc is great. The patterns are adorable! My only complaint, and it’s a big one, is i carefully followed the instructions, never created wasted yarn, but ended up with not enough yarn to finish the dinosaur. I was able to create the head and most of the body, but ran out of yarn to finish the body and wasn’t able to make arms or tail. No other supply of yarn given was sufficient as a replacement. So I’m giving three stars because the Dino was the only one i really wanted.

This little kit is excellent at teaching how to crochet.I love the patterns and the cute little creatures you can create.My biggest complaint is how small the hook and yarn are for beginners. I’m and older woman learning, and that 2.5mm hook is t super easy to learn using with.

This includes everything you need to get started as well as links to videos to help teach you the crochet stitches that you need. The materials are decent quality and you don't have to go out and find anything you need except that the yarn given is on the stingy side. It would have been nice to be given extra yarn in case mistakes were made or stitching was looser than usual, but it's easy to run out if you handle your project differently than expected. This is a good kit for beginners, but I wouldn't give it as a gift because of the precise yarn measurements.

Beware, this kit contains over the legal limit of cuteness! The variety of animal friends in this kit provides something for everyone. It also provides a progression of skill level from absolute beginner (penguin) to a beginner that's done a few projects (dino). Someone with intermediate or advanced skills would also get great enjoyment out of a project that can be completed super quickly to add a special touch to another gift.Everything is included in the boxed set. The crochet hook is better than the one that I had previously. The handle is ergonomic, doesn't slip, and is comfortable to hold. As someone else noted, it is a smaller hook and the yarn is thinner, but this is typical of amigurumi crochet toys. The smaller stitches are mean to hold in the stuffing and allow the result to be tiny but still have detail. The absolute beginner may want to practice on other yarn first because it does tend to easily fray. Once I got going on the project, I had no problems. Although I've done a few of these toys now, I'd still consider myself a beginner so I hold everything too tight and put too much tension on the yarn. The smaller hook in this kit was much easier for me to manage than another kit with the same yarn and bigger hook. I like how silky soft the yarn is compared to scratchy acrylic yarn from the craft store.The instruction guide is clear with color photos at each step. The videos are super helpful. The project uses a single crochet stitch, which is the simplest to learn and quickest to do. The pattern is worked in a spiral so there is no confusion about how to end a round and work the next row. You just keep going. Be sure to use stitch markers. The ones included are perfect. They are easy to place and move.I will give this kit 5 stars because of how much cuteness you can create from one kit. It's a good thing they sell this in a brown box. If my family found out, they might stage an intervention. Or ask that I make them more, anyhow.
