Great Concept and Guitar But Needs Setup
Giving this little badboy a 5 for price for what you are getting. But like everything with a low price there are some catches I will gladly tell you about.Got this Donner silent acoustic guitar because I didn't have a small guitar and I liked that fact it wasn't that much bigger than my custom ukuleles that I have so I decided to jump on this when it went on lightning deal!Unboxing: small box and everything was delivered undamaged (which is always a good thing). Everything packed extremely well and had it's items were all wrapped in is own packaging. Even the fretboard had paper to protect it from the strings.First impressions: great build and I can't say anything bad about the stuff it came with. Bag is pretty firm for a gig bag. It had metal around the straps, the added shoulder strap doubles as a guitar strap. Tuner, earphones, different size picks, tools and accessories with extra screws is always good cause I know I'll lose it.The guitar is nice...neck felt good to my big hands, it was neck heavy even with the metal bars added to make it feel more like a guitar shape. It doesn't feel like an acoustic guitar but more like a really light hard body, but I am use to having an instrument close to my body cause I play ukuleles. The action was way too high and holding chords were hard. It has a piezo so there was an active 9v system with a high, low, and volume. The fact it had a phase button was really cool. It also had a earphones out and an aux in for you to play along with your phone's mp3 player.Ended up taking it to be professionally set up and it cost me about 100 bucks to lower the action, adjust the truss rod, file down some of the frets, lower the saddle, and adjust the nut. He also buffed the fretboard so it's smooth as glass. Now it plays well with very low action with no buzz, great for my finger style of playing. (Note: I've done ukulele setups and some minor work when it comes to metal stringed instruments but this needed a full setup so I paid to get it done right. If you're able to do it just note that the truss rod had no tension when I tried to dial it in.)Sound: it sounds great plugged into my genz benz acoustic amp and pretty damn good for earphones as well, which is the reason I bought it so I can play on my own without bothering anyone. I mean what is there to say...it sounds pretty good for under 300 bucks plus the set up. I used my ukulele settings I already had dialed in and it sounded great. All in all, good instrument for the money you pay. Great quality and perks you get from them for under 300. Just remember you need to probably set this guitar up to your liking before you play it because it comes with barely any setup, almost impossibly high action to play. It works well as a beginner and intermediate guitar and I say even pro if you don't want to travel with your Taylor. I recommend you get the setup done right by a luthier for your way of playing and liking. So for 400 bucks setup I still say it's a winner and I can travel with it and not worry about someone hearing me play terrible lol!

Good way to get into guitar at a low price
I like the idea of this guitar but I have serious professional instruments I much prefer playing. I took it to my luthier for adjustment and found it much more playable after she set it up, but still it is strictly a travel/camping instrument for me. It is such an interesting guitar I will keep it, but would not fret (no pun intended) if it were lost, stolen or found it's way into the hands of someone who purchased it. I find it's lightness and balance a bit difficult, but actually like the oddly shaped neck. Setting it up with the various pieces of shaped metal to make it more guitar-like is not necessary to play it. However, once it is set up with the metal frame it is easier to balance in my experience. It stays in tune and might be a wonderful instrument for a beginner. Also, the case is well made. Purchase a different battery tuner; the one provided is marginal, but at that price point...

Ingenious design
Ok, so this review is actually about the Donner Hush-X.The compact design is like no other. I mean, without the brackets attached it fits in a bag you might put a couple baseball bats in. That slim. The brackets also fit in the provided carry bag and there are several pockets to put related items including the handy tuner Donner gifts to buyers of this guitar. A very clever strap is also included as our picks and several extra allen wrenches. A nice little amp cord as well and get this...some very cool earbuds. The earbuds fit nicely in the ear but Donner went one further and designed them so they are sound-tight. You'll have to see them to fully understand this. Now the important stuff:The neck is a shallow C shape similar to my Gilmore Strat. I'm not sure what the fretboard is made of ..I assume some cool polymer, but it's great. Lightning fast and it just feels right. Further, it's a full scale neck! You won't see that on many travel guitars. This thing plays like a full size. I was very apprehensive about the tuners. Guess what? I do some serious bending and the strings just stay in tune. My Traveler guitar has to be tuned about every time I pick it up. Not this Hush-X. It's remarkable. The action required a bit of tweaking. Many might like the standard string height but I wanted the action lower. Fortunately the bridge can be adjusted so I didn't have to do too much with the truss. The electronics are plenty good but I have to mess with the settings a bit more before I can do a write up on the electronics as a whole, but so far so good. I have an assortment of guitars but find myself playing this little guy a ton since it's arrival. I figured out how to hang it next to my bed by one of the brackets. My wife can be sound asleep next to me and I can play without waking her or stabbing her in the head with a headstock. So that's a plus. Speaking of brackets...these things are way more cool than they're pictured. They're sturdy, fit very securely and I couldn't ask for a better fit to my body as I hold the guitar. Standing, sitting , lying down...the brackets just work and it's great having a guitar of this size at my disposal. Trust me, buy one and you'll practice and play much more than you are currently playing. And that in itself is a huge and unforeseen bonus. I'm telling all my friends about this guitar. If you read my other reviews you'll see I do my best to tell it like it is. I should add that I had a couple questions about this guitar and the customer service person (Zoe) I emailed was quick to respond and was just incredibly helpful. Zoe was amazing and so is this little guitar. I suspect as word gets around the price of this guitar will go up.... I sincerely believe you'd be wise to buy yours today.
