Shines a Light on Napoleon's Personality
For me, the fascination with this book was that the author actually knew Napoleon and who had no reason, such as political gain, to present anything but the truth about her impressions. I am an admitted Napoleon addict and admirer. It was delightful to see that he had a humorous and even endearing side. I have read a multitude of books about Napoleon Bonaparte, but few give any insight into his personality as this one does. For anyone interested in Napoleon as a person, this book is a must.

A classic
I have visited the island of St Helena twice, which makes this book extra enjoyable, knowing place names and scenes but it should still be a fund read for those that have not visited the island. A basic knowledge of the history and Napoleon's stay on St Helena will make the read more meaningful.

The girl who became friends with the Empereur of France
This is a great book. It is an interesting read about a girl by the name of Betsy Belcombe who was living on Saint Helena when the Empereur Napoleon was exiled there in 1815. The book details all that happened between these two different people. She decribes how she was frightened of Napoleon at first, but then became more comfortable being around him as she got to know him more. He was more like a child then an Empereur. A great book and I recommend it to anyone.
