So I bought this because of the glowing reviews. I love leadership books and read them regularly.Imagine reading a book of freshman college level essays or blog posts on generic leadership concepts. Disjointed, disorganized, and generic, the author refuses to provide context or creativity or any kind of structure to leadership. After a nice start on the first five pages, I found myself lost. Be a good communicator? Okay. Studies show there are three types of interpersonal leadership styles. Okay. What are we talking about here? Why is there no practical advice? Just random, aimless examples.Without concrete examples or creative commentary or examples, I found this book - which I stopped at 75% in - to be totally unusable. If you want to be a great leader and you’re just starting out, you can try 5 dysfunctions and other texts by Lecioni, or From Good to Great and the following books from Collins, or even Never Split the Difference by Voss… even the latest stuff from Jocko was at least digestable in an actionable way.I will at least give it two stars for citing some good books or points, but sadly the best points this author brings to us as the readers are from other authors or books.
