Lonely Planet Farsi (Persian) Phrasebook & Dictionary

Best phrasebook I have seen
I have a PhD in Persian Studies and speak Farsi fluently. But this little phrasebook is very well done, gives lots of vocabulary for terms I didn't know, is very well laid out, has a super English-Persian/Persian-English dictionary at the back, and, for those who can read Arabic script, it uses both transliterations and words in the script. Even if you don't read Persian, the use of the original script means you can point to words and expect Iranians to understand them. Don't forget that this will serve you well, not just in Iran, but in Dari-speaking parts of Afghanistan and in Farsi-speaking Tajikistan.

Not really a new edition
Great LP phrasebook as always but the only thing that seems to have changed in the ten years since I bought the last one is the cover!

Best £5 I have ever spent.....probably.
The book is tiny, but has over 250 pages including a 2 way dictionary, and has lots of useful information and phrases, with all translated in spoken and written Farsi.

Useful
Basic and fundamental Farsi. Really useful. Use it wisely!

OK....but!
Not as good as I had hoped for. Putting the Farsi translation in green made it very difficult to read, especially in poor light. Also, becuase of the pocket-size of the book itself, the print is fairly small and reading glasses were needed! Not the easiest phrasebook to use when you need to look something up quickly.

It was "fine."
I am not sure what to expect in phrasebook, but it didn't seem to start with things I would need: "Hello" "how are you" "what time is it" "how much does it cost" "I am sorry" "my name is" "what is your name?" and the most important one, "where is the bathroom?"It didn't tell me my favorite word in every language: "Breakfast." (German, "Frustuck," Spanish, "Desauno," Italian "prima colazione," Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu: "Nashta." French: "petit déjeuner" Norwegian: "frokost." Danish: "morgenmad.") But could not find that in this book.I looked, honestly.I am certain it would be helpful to someone.Trip was cancelled or postponed due to bone-headed feuding between Iran and USA, so I stopped studying pretty quickly. You'll think they would have the decency to get along until I could complete my two-week exploration of their culture, architecture and food. But noooooo..... They couldn't restrain their bellicose and militaristic nonsense.I was really looking forward to this trip...Trump, Pompeo and the Ayatollahs ruined it for me!Someday, though....

Gut aufgebaut
Kam recht schnell an.
