Slow I/O and no Linux
UPDATE: I was able to re-install Win11 and here is a few tips. You MUST use a wired mouse to install...the trackpad doesnt have a driver in winstall. You MUST download a hard disk driver and install it inside winstall just like the XP old days. Then you have about 12 drivers to install from the Asus support website. Not hard, but I havent done it old-skool like that in a decade. Bumped my rating up to 4*. Dont expect support from Asus, good luck with that!Heads up the Windows 11 install is encrypted and super duper slow. And forget about installing Linux. The “advanced” gui Asus BIOS makes it really difficult to DEFAULT boot from USB (yes you can ESC boot) It’s unfortunate because with the high end specs you would expect it to be faster. May return. The coolest part of the laptop is the 40GB of RAM which makes it sad it’s so slow.

Not what I expected, description misleading
Well, I have built several desktop PC using ASUS motherboards and components. They all functioned very well. My HP laptop went to la la land, so I was looking for a new laptop. Came across the ASUS Vivobook S with OLED and 12th gen. I7 H processor M2 SSD etc. So, I purchased the first one which was the 512gb SSD and 12gb RAM. When it arrived it looked very nice, OLED great! but it did not have the Touch pad 2.0. So, I sent it back and ordered the same Laptop with 2TB SSD and 40gb RAM. But, before ordering I called customer service and asked them if the touch pad 2.0 came with this one and they confirmed that it did. So, I ordered it and when It came in I contacted ASUS support and they told me that this model DID NOT come with the touch pad 2.0. Wow, so I called Amazon customer support and they confirmed that it was included in the description. Not only was that a disappointment but it came with a bottom of the line Kingston 2TB SSD and a 32gb stick with 2666 mhz. That's probably why the other review claims slow I/O speeds. I can't believe for what I paid that Asus is trimming performance with budget parts. Also, it comes with 8gb RAM on board which is for onboard graphics for the OLED. The Gen, 12 Intel I7 is capable of using over 4000Mhz RAM and 4th generation M2 SSD. I plan on purchasing the bare bones Vivobook S and adding my own SSD and RAM. The first Vivobook S I had ordered had a pretty decent Micron SSD. I am very disappointed with Asus and for the description being inaccurate. I am sending this one back wait for my refund and purchase another that I can upgrade to my specification. Don't waste your money on the factory upgrades, you can put more bang for your buck with a lot better components for the same or less than the factory. You'll know what you have and expect. As far as the touch pad 2.0 well I am not going to worry about that anymore, just though it would be a cool feature to have. Not anymore. After all this I am going to seriously consider Acer Swift 3 OLED 12th gen. I7 and at least they are running LPDDR5 in theirs.
