Good performer if you can't amplify closer to your aerial
The most important thing to note with signal boosters is that they need to be mounted as close to the aerial as possible, so that they amplify the signal at the point where it has the lowest noise. Mast head amplifiers are the best performers because of this, with second best being a loft amplifer. The worst sort is one that's mounted just behind your TV - which is the clear intention of this unit. They will always struggle to improve a bad signal, because they also amplify any noise on the signal that's been introduced in the wiring between the roof aerial and the amplifier. That said, if you have to go for an amplifier close to your TV (because you're lazy, or don't want to / can't run a power supply anywhere near your aerial), this isn't a bad one. Variable gain is important, because an over-amplified signal is as bad as one with no amplification at all. I found this unit performed best with my setup when the dial was close to its lowest setting. Freeview channels that had previously shown frequent signal breakup became much more reliable, and I started to have reasonable reception on channels where I'd had virtually none before. I suspect those rating the unit low because it 'made no difference' either had the gain set too high, or had such a noisy signal that amplification wasn't going to help. The plug-through facility is a big bonus for me (and the reason I chose this unit), because it means you can turn off the power to both the amplifier and your TV by switching off one socket - perfect if you're energy-conscious and don't like leaving devices on standby.Overall a solid performer, at a good price - though if you are able to fit one, a mast-head amplifier or one located in your loft would give much better results (no reason this couldn't be located in a loft, but the design clearly isn't intended for that).

Works but needs to bed in first
Bought to replace an exact same unit that inexplicably fell off the wall and broke. First, make sure you have the right cables to connect this up. I recommend getting two - one from the socket on the wall to the unit and the other from the unit to the telly. Replace old ones - they are cheap enough to buy on Amazon.

Give your television a signal booster to!
This signal booster did the trick, on arrival back from a visit to Spain I discovered that a significant number of channels were missing from my auto tune list. After checking the connections to the existing booster, and finding that they couldn't restored by retuning the set, I purchased this booster, and on retuning it captured far more than previously, and with good picture quality including the HD channels. So I am very pleased with it and would recommend it especially as there is a gain control to further boost or reduce the gain as may be necessary. And I am considering purchasing another for another set elsewhere.

Poor signal resolved
My husband was having trouble with a tv card on the computer, finding stations but no pictures a few minutes to install using this device and so far so good it is working and he has watched a few programmes. May it continue to work as he does not view this tv very often but uses our main tv which had no problems. The down side of it this device is quiet bulky and needs an electrical point, however ours is in a corner and is masked by its position.

Ok but faulty.
Booster worked but only on output no2...no1 output was dead. Tried with numerous brand new fly leads but made no difference. Sent back as I didn't want to risk damaging a new TV.....might try another in the future.
