Engrossing revelation about John Lennon and Yoko Ono
Robert Rosen has memorized what he can from John Lennon's diaries after they apparently were stolen. Part fact, part assumed fact bordering on fiction, Nowhere Man is a real page turner.I learned so much about Lennon, the complex, tortured man. I learned why he called Ono mother, and why he genuinely meant it.Lennon's relationship with his former wife, his not so secret lover, and his sons Julian and Sean unveil a lot about this insecure superstar. Why did his assassin carry out his act of madness? How did the occult feature heavily over John and Yoko? Much is revealed, and much remains mysterious.Rosen's Nowhere Man, it turns out, impacted millions globally. If anything, an Everywhere Man.

Probably the closest to the authentic Lennon
Balanced Golden Mean account of Lennon's personality, beliefs, M.O. that's neither the HitPiece of Albert Goldman's bio, nor the fawning confabulating embellishments of most other bios of the Beatle that erroneously build him up to be some Hippie Peacenik martyr.

A Totally Mixed Bag
Having just read Tom Doyle's book on Paul McCartney in the 70s, this was a dismaying read. People have said that it's not harsh on Yoko. I think it's very damning. The suffocating life that the Lennons were leading, surrounded by enablers, is a complete turn-off. I liked the numerology chapter best, as it showed, albeit in a weird way, that John was thinking about the people nearest and dearest to him and their places in his life. Effectively destroys the myth, but then, one wonders, what's left of the legacy. The songs, I suppose... Lennon does not come off as innocent, more as a man who had to be led by the nose by someone--first Paul, then Yoko. Perhaps Mimi, his only effective parent, left her mark in this way. And Rosen's drive to get his unauthorized story out is both admirable and a bit dubious.

Update the review please
The reviews listed here are for the book, printed years ago. The ebook for sale here has been updated. I wish someone would give a review of the updated ebook as compared to the original book. And I really wish a print copy were available.

Interesting new material.
Interesting new material. No way to know how much is true, but that goes for all the Lennon biographies.

Honest portrait of a great talent
As a lifelong Beatles fan , especially of John, I found Rosen's book to be poignant and unsentimental. He captured John's everyday thoughts, struggles, as well as joys. Despite it all , John definitely felt stability and love with Yoko and Sean.

Mixed feelings
I have very mixed feelings about this book. It does give insight to things about John Lennon's life but I believe the author does not understand the source of his material. The book is based on the author's memory of a diary and therefore is probably somewhat accurate as to events. But the author draws conclusions on the subject's feelings and emotions that I would not have and places too much emphasis on these. There is also a sense of sensationalism which is unfortunate for a book that otherwise would be good.

Two Stars
Gossip magazine-level material, vulgarity, sources not validated, a failed attempt at creating a 'shocking biography' to achieve sales.

Insightful
Quite insightful. Although i read most of these accounts in Fred Seaman's book a few years ago. Worth reading though if interested in Lennon's final few years at the Dakota
