Amazing Analogue and DMR Professional Scanner! (updated extended Review with actual Frequency Coverage Range)
Amazing Professional Scanner!. Takes a long time to get to know all the functions of the scanner. But it's an amazing piece of equipment. Perhaps not as busy as it would be if used in North America. But if you have the UK frequencies at hand it helps as you know UK frequencies are not publicly available in much detail so not as easy to setup as it would be if say you lived in USA where scanning lists are just a download away on Radio Reference. So many menus and different things it's a lot different to the basic scanner. The zip code / postcode feature is off no use in the UK as is the GPS feature these are aimed at the USA market this is the fault of Uniden who have tunnel vision and mainly only concerned about the USA market. The scanner constantly records all in-coming signals in a 30 - 240 second adjustable loop if required, for instant replay. You can also record manually by pressing the F key then replay/record button and same to stop the recording. The recordings are in .wav format and very good quality all stored in date and time format. A 4GB mini-SD card is supplied but I recommend buying a class 10 Sandisk Ultra card it can take up to 32GB as it will write very fast and also when deleting files it's fast. There are many great features like Discovery, Analyze, Close-Call (Close-Call works with Analogue signals only) Auto power off, Battery save, Band Defaults (within allowed range) Trunking Discovery, Priority scan, Unlimited favourites lists etc.... Purchased from Rocket Radio through Amazon. I have owned this scanner since March 2017 and would like people to know there are certain bands you can not access for example the 672-685 MHz radio mic band and more. The scanner is broke into 25-1300MHz with 31 Bands. But it is not continuous coverage with no gaps as advertised. There is actually many gaps in reception. Many frequencies and whole bands you can't listen to within it's 25-1300MHz range (They are blocked on purpose). Here is the actual scanning range of the scanner UBCD3600XLT (BCD436HP as named in USA) Band 1: 25.0000 - 26.9600 Band 2: 26.9650 - 27.4050 Band 3: 27.4100 - 27.9950 Band 4: 28.0000 - 29.6800 Band 5: 29.7000 - 49.9900 Band 6: 50.0000 - 53.9800 Band 7: 54.0000 - 71.9500 Band 8: 72.0000 - 75.9950 Band 9: 76.0000 - 87.9995 Band 10: 88.0000 - 107.9000 Band 11: 108.0000 - 136.9916 Band 12: 137.0000 - 143.9975 Band 13: 144.0000 - 147.9950 Band 14: 148.0000 - 150.7875 Band 15: 150.8000 - 161.9950 Band 16: 162.0000 - 173.9875 Band 17: 174.0000 - 215.9500 Band 18: 216.0000 - 224.9800 Band 19: 225.0000 - 379.9750 Band 20: 380.0000 - 399.9875 Band 21: 400.0000 - 405.9875 Band 22: 406.0000 - 419.9875 Band 23: 420.0000 - 449.9875 Band 24: 450.0000 - 469.9875 Band 25: 470.0000 - 512.0000 Band 26: 758.0000 - 787.99375 Band 27: 788.0000 - 805.99375 Band 28: 806.0000 - 823.9875 Band 29: 849.0125 - 868.9875 Band 30: 894.0125 - 960.0000 Band 31: 1240.0000 - 1300.0000If you try enter a frequency outside of these bands you will get "Out of Band!" message. It's software locked so I presume there are things in those locked out bands we are not allowed to listen to. However there is a discriminator mod known to open it up, this will kill your guarantee though and also your scanner if you mess it up as it requires an internal solder mod to the circuit board. Google that. The DMR comes FREE with UK version, you don't need to pay for any upgrade as you did with the USA version which Uniden released three years previously to this UK version but both scanners are identical just differently named externally. But I found some types of DMR have problems locking onto, usually the type of DMR used by cheap Chinese handsets such as Baofeng as they are not true Mototrbo standard but rather an in house type for Baofeng radio to radio use hence why they don't also work on DMR Amateur radio repeaters. Proper Mototrbo I & II no problems though. You will be able to receive Mototrbo Capacity Plus (CAP) if it is not encrypted. I did find some types of CAPS systems use closed and open systems shared on same frequency, for example you may hear some transmissions on a CAPS frequency and some others will be encrypted and you will get no audio for those but the multi-coloured signal receive light will still light up. Even though there many negative points using this scanner in the UK compared with the USA it's still a great scanner and good bit of technology. It just needs some Firmware updates to take it on from version 1.00 which it seems to be stuck at with no updates announced. In all the scanner has a good signal reception and is not deaf like other brands with DMR the threshold levels can also be adjusted in the many menus. You should also be aware that you can not charge the scanner while you listen to it. A USB cable will power it, and let you listen via external power but in order to charge the batteries you have to switch the scanner off it will then say "charging" you can set the charge time required using the menus, 4 hours is plenty time to charge the three AA batteries using a 2.5 amp USB power plug. If you charge via a computer USB port it is going to require many hours. I should also mention that this Euro/UK version is handled by the European importer and not by Uniden directly. Uniden only deal with USA units labelled BCD436HP. If you have any questions that I didn't cover feel free to ask me. If you do want to listen to frequencies not covered by the scanner just buy a cheap SDR from Amazon and use SDR Sharp software. Better than messing with the insides of the scanner and possibly damaging it.

Great scanner, poor manual.
Excellent and impressive technology although very much geared towards the US market with the American frequency databases and zip-code locator. However, the manual is a let-down; the first 24 pages list technical descriptions before you even get to the "setting the date/time" part. It lacks a "getting started" section allowing you to scan immediately, before progressively leading you into the complexities of quick keys, favourites lists, system keys, avoidance, discovery, colour-coding etc and you have to select a trunking system before the search, it's not automatic. Also, I never did find out where the "discovered" frequencies are located to return to, as after many hours studying the manual, I gave up and returned the unit. But I have to say that the retailer tried to be helpful and understood my criticisms and arranged a refund; but I had to pay return postage. Oh, well, back to my 30-year-old Tandy scanner with clearly numbered memories to store interesting frequencies; scanning was so much easier then.

New scanner ubcd3600xlt
Just starting to set it up, I'll let you know how it goes, looking good at the moment. I'm still trying to get it working right? Not having much luck with it.

Bonne affaire
