I do not have stairs as I am In a flat however purchased for my puppy of 9weeks old. Wasy to install however handle has broken after 48hours has only been used to pull across to secure room at night. Handle snapped day 2.Rather hard to pull out of the retractable side.... great concept but could be better for the price.

Purchased to stop dog (Labrador) from going upstairs every morning. It works so a happy customer.

Screws supplied were useless, doesn’t retract properly. Keeps dog from coming upstairs not worth the price

The media could not be loaded.  they will charge you for returns. item is very abd, had to ask professional to but extra materials to install. gates is not even closing with two hands trying hard. asked for refund no luck. item doesnt fold back too. ill add photos have a look.

We purchased this in anticipation of our new dog. Our front door opens directly on to the street and a busy road so we wanted something to stop the dog from running out. It fitted OK with the fixtures. However, we found that it was not quick to pull across and hook in place and needed 2 hands, which is not ideal when you are trying to keep a dog at bay. Once in place the dog just tried to put his paws on top of it to see over. This caused it to come unhooked and snap back into it's case, which scared to dog. On a subsequent attempt we had someone stop the dog from jumping but he then just tried to push his way under it and caused the unhooking again. We have not bothered using it again as it is more inconvenient to use it than not. This would be suitable for a lazy older dog who has no interest in seeing what's on the other side. It is effectively a roller blind on its side which stretches across the gap.

This product appears to be well made and sturdy. It was ordered as a barrier to stop a dog going up stairs (and falling back down!) Unfortunately have had to return it as we could only get a secure fixing on one side. One part would have fitted to a wooden newel post but the other side is a curved plaster wall which is not true, as it's an old cottage. We do, however, feel it would be an effective barrier so long as your can get a good fixing on both sides and more practical and nicer looking than a metal stair gate.
