Seems to be a well laid out and thought through book
My 8 year old has just finished their second week of year 4, it is about 3:30pm on the Friday afternoon, so somewhat tired and unprepared. Perhaps not really the best time to actually be attempting this book, a Key Stage 2 Year 4 Science Targeted Question book. However, they sat on my lap and were engaged in the first section of questions and end of topic quiz. The book is split in to 5 topics, about 3-7 pages long each, and an end of year test. At the end is full answers. The text in the book itself is (after the introductory pages) was clear and pretty much the same size and shape as the 'chapter books' my child is currently reading. The language was of a suitable level too, such that I didn't really need to read out what was there (although my child tends to guess [wrongly] at words when they are tired). The first topic was living things and their habitats. My child claims to not have done this (although the usual 'What did you do at school today' answer is just a grunt), I suspect this to be mostly true. The majority of the questions in this section to me were really just a logical deduction task. I.e. which word fits the sentence or 'if a happened, and b happened, what could this mean?'. I have't lived their syllabus to know whether this is suitable for their level. The questions which my child couldn't do were fill the missing letters in the words, one example being amphibian. Took me a couple of seconds to work that one out, but I am not surprised my child didn't. I suspect that they covered amphibians and frogs in year 2, spelling it now is a bit of a stretch (given they haven't been told it is amphibian they need to spell).Overall I think this book will be useful, but it is definitely for revision purposes so will need to wait a couple of months before it is majorly used again here. This book BTW is letter size. Not the same shape/size as the other book in the series I got

An Excellent Science Question Book for Year 4
CGP have published some of the amazing line of helpful books for different years and having used some of these for my son last year when he was in Year 3, I had high hopes for this one and it does not disappoint. It actually delivers brilliantly. The books include 5 topics i.e. Living Things and Their habits, Animals Including Humans, States of Matter, Sound, and Electricity. The provided question types have a really good variety and include choices like check boxes, tables, fill-in-the-blanks, unscrambling the letters, description matching and many more. The point is that this variety of questions is keeping my son interested and involved as he normally can get really bored of anything monotonous. There are many pictorial illustrations to support the questions and help in understanding the environment e.g. related to animals and transport. Overall structure of the question book allows to design a really good activity for the kids while they are also learning and (trying to) answering the questions presented here. There are end of topic quiz provided and also an end of year test thrown in for even more practicing. What's more, the answers are provided at the end probably for any unsuspecting or out-of-touch parents like myself :).In my opinion, this is an excellent supplement to the practice for any Year 4 kid and a condensed overview of the topics for year 4 Science. It is easy enough to begin with and then contains moderate to complex questions, none too tough but have enough complexity to develop the science knowledge of your Year 4 kids.Overall highly recommended!

Really useful and in line with the curriculum
This book is great for anyone hoping to help a child in Year 4 progress in their understanding of science. The contents is age appropriate, easy to read and grasp and in line with the curriculum. It also means that a parent doesn't need to be knowledgeable in order to assist their child.
