This is a lovely book about the Monterey Peninsula and some surrounding areas.I am from the area and continue to go back annually to visit, yet somehow the author managed to teach me many useful things about the geology, animals, and especially the trees!I've also copied a couple of the author's favourite hikes, to great success, and have thought of many things I learned from the book as I've visited many of my favourite local sights.The book is also fun and funny all the way up until the last couple chapters, which then turn more reflective.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope you do as well!

I am so pleased to have this book! It really offers the Monterey Peninsula the loving guide that it deserves.It is the sort of book it is wonderful to discover at an Airbnb or a cabin.I appreciated the detailed descriptions of the animals, trees, tidepools, birds and geology. The author’s insider’s take on top hikes is invaluable. Finally, I found the reflections shared at the end — bridging lessons from our natural world to our current context and lessons for mindful living — to be both really timely and timeless.

This guide was truly written with a love for the natural beauty of the Monterey Peninsula. The author has clearly devoted himself to investigating all the parks, trails and scenic areas in the region. Including the animals you might encounter is a wonderful bonus you don't always get in a trail guide. I think this guide would enhance any visit to the area even if you don't plan to spend a lot of time on the trails.

An excellent and informative read about the Monterey Peninsula. The author has an easy to read style that is fun yet packed with great information. Even as a seasoned vet of this area, I still learned a lot of new things!
