Well made watch with slightly poor quality band
This review is for Alpina Men's Startimer Stainless Steel Swiss-Automatic Watch with Leather Strap, Black, 21 (Model: AL-525G4TS6)The watch’s frame feels well made but I cannot say the same thing for the band. The overall construction of the watch is excellent. The band looks and feels kind of cheap when you consider the price point on this watch. The numbers are very easy to read. You have the date option as well. You can easily wind the date and the time and the best thing you don’t need to worry about replacing the battery as it is working with kinetic energy all you need is to move the watch.

CAINT KEEP TIME, BUT I DO LOVE THIS WRISTWATCH
Even though I Kinda Love this watch it wouldn't be fair to rate it Five Stars because it doesn't quite rise to that level. First of all this watch looks spectacular. I can honestly say this is one of only a tiny handful of designs I've seen in the past couple of years that really knocked my socks off. I ordered it on this basis even though I knew that, with an 8 inch wrist, a 44MM watch will likely never do: and Do it Does Not For Me, on this basis. To be clear: If you do not have at least an 8.5 inch wrist, this watch is going to look disproportionately large on your wrist and I cannot recommend it to you on this basis.Having said that, if you DO have an 8.5 inch or greater, I highly recommend you purchase this watch based on the basis of looks. For, it is a beauty. You will love the clean face; You will love the over-sized letters and the dial layout; You will like and possibly love the shape of the hands and design of the sweep hand. This is a Simply Beautiful Timepiece. It is powered by an Selitta movement customized in-house. The movement otherwise being nearly identical to the ETA 2824. The latter being found in a large number of high end watches including, for instance, the Tudor Back Bay.I am admittedly a bit spoiled because the two best watches I've owned, the mechanical Seiko Diver (5 Stars) and the Rolex Datejust (also 5 Stars), kept such accurate time that it was only necessary to adjust time when the date function had to be recalibrated to match the month. As a result, it is difficult for me to own a watch because A) most watches just don't keep time very well, and B) I hate quartz movements and and C) I'm over Rolex, and can't afford most others that appeal to my taste and, finally, small d) I lead a physically active life and subject my arm wear to lots of contact with hard objects, small spaces often resulting in damage, sometimes major, to watches but I also don't want to go back to the two watches in me life that stood the test of, ahem, time (Seiko,Rolex).I usually end up getting rid any watch I buy within a few weeks or months because of time gain or loss, or because of watch fragility. In fact, another watch whose design I liked nearly as much as I do this watch was a Muhle Glashutte that I eventually wanted to stomp on because it gained so much time of a day: It was like watching bamboo grow. I literally began to hate the thing for it.This watch DOES GAIN TIME on the order of 8 seconds a day. Nevertheless, I like the design and materials so much that I can forgive it this: Such a beautiful timepiece. As to robustness I love the supple, thick leather strap. If looks great, wears beautifully, and one needs not worry about damaging it through the rough and tumble of daily life; and the stainless steel buckle is similarly handsome and robust.Unfortunately, the watch casing is ostentatiously large and I don't like that one little bit. Sadly, I went shopping for a 40MM version of this specific model and could only find a rose gold casing with a colored face which, while handsome, is not sublime as is this white-faced, stainless steel case edition. This is perplexing. Why isn't a 40mm white face version available? With an eight inch wrist, a 40mm casing is what any average diameter arm can pull off effortlessly.Having said that, even if this particular watch were 40mm, I would still rate it only 4 Stars because of the time gain issue albeit, as I said, I love this watch: I love its look, I love the leather band which is super comfortable and latches securely with a simple buckle. I love having a date function (tho, miss the cyclops window of the Rolexes), I like the way it winds, I'm pleased it has a hacking function and overall, I believe this is just a Super Watch that anyone with at least an 8.5 inch wrist will be equally thrilled to own, so long as they can forgive an 8 second daily time gain or loss.FOUR FULL STARS and RECOMMENDED!
