Merkava Main Battle Tank MKs I, II & III (New Vanguard)

Great book on a great tank design
This publication provides a good overview of one of the more inovative tank designs of the 20th Century. Although it only goes up to the MK III, a related Osprey book fills in the blanks for the Merkava enthusiast. The author also clarifies the design criteria behind the vehicle. The front-engine, rear access door are kind of "Duh!" ideas first proposed in the U.S. T-92 light tank design in the 50s. The Israelis applied the idea to a MBT successfully. I do wish there were interior photos although security concerns may prevent them being published. I highly recommend this book to Merkava fans.

A useful overview, not a great modeling resource
This is a more or less typical New Vanguard book. It gives a good overview of the featured vehicle, with a development and usage history including major revisions. As a resource for scale modeling I would refer you to the Desert Eagle Publications books on IDF vehicles. Sure they're three times more costly, but modelers will find easily ten times the amount of useful reference. The New Vanguard books are good for what they are. Short, sweet and economical, with some useful photos

Worth the price!
A must-have book for any Merkava tank fans. Very little is written or available about the Merkava. This book goes from the first version to the Merkava 3. Nice illustrations and pictures too. Unfortunately, nothing on the Merkava 4. Have to search elsewhere for info on that version.

Best info I have found to date
What a sweet book with info I could not find online. Pick up the companion book of isreal AFVs and APCs if looking for gen 4 merkava info

Many photos of all the Merkava versions, but little info
This book covers well the history of the Merkava. The introduction has a summary of many years of history of the IDF armoured forces which led to the development of this tank. The book includes lots of photos of the Merkava I, II and III, from several angles and close-ups.However, no colour photos are included. Information is rather sparse and tends to be a bit superlative. There is little information about the tank interior.A comparison table of the three models is provided, but physical dimensions, forward and reverse speed, vertical obstacle clearing, etc. are missing (they are only mentioned for the Merkava II). Also it would be good to see a comparison against western and eastern tanks (specially the T-72).

Osprey-Boschüren, sehr empfehlenswert
Ich habe mich für die Osprey-Broschüren entschieden, da diese sehr informativ und gut bebildert sind.

Quite good
It's quite a good book for Osprey standards (most times lower than 4 starts in my opinion). I enjoyed reading it and thought it carried a pretty good amount of information. A good start for this subject of the Merkava.
