How fun!

I had never used a router in the past but as we are working on renovations, I just wanted to add one to my arsenal of tools. We own a few other Metabo cordless tools, so this seemed like the correct choice. Again, we were not disappointed. It was easy to use, powerful, not too heavy and I was quite successful routing my first door hinges. I like that it can be plugged in with the proper electric adaptor if one desires. Highly recommend.

Amazon warehouse "used like new" vs "Amazon "New"

Was dead on arrival and had been dead since the day it fell off the assembly line. It was beautiful, smooth & tight, I toyed with everything tring to unlock a mystery on/off switch, watched youtube videos, setup and troubleshooting until I finally accepted the the warehouse does not inspect or test returns. The router was not used, it was brand new but hatched from a rotten egg.So I bought a new router from Amazon.com 5 minutes after I returned the dead one and it has arrived 3 days later!! This one works as it should and I would rate it 5-star but I got charged $8 bucks for the return, I was very lucky to have the dead router delivered on cyber monday cause I got the new one for $147, $161 with tax....the same price I paid for the broken used router a week earlier. In the end I got a new one for used price,. maybe I will give a 5-star rating because it seems that the heavens made it happen.

THIS is the router for you!

As a career woodworker I use routers all the time, I had previously bought a corded Bosch router kit but didnt like it that much- mainly the power switch was not near the handles and I have to reach up and around to fumble the switch. This Metabo cordless is fantastic, I bought it after using a co-worker's unit and seeing how much power it has etc.It came with a bunch of accessories as well as a set of insert guides. The ergonomics are perfect, the power switch is right there on the handle as is the lock, it takes a little getting used to the switch and locking sequence to start and lock it on, but I'm really liking this kit!The charger charges the battery FAST, it's a good sized battery but the router uses a pretty fair amount of power out of it, so depending on your depth of cut and size of router bit and feet travelled, the battery will drop from 4 bars to 2 pretty fast. I used a 1/4" wide slotting bit cutting about 12 mm deep in poplar, running the router down 10 feet per cut, and 4 cuts for each of my projects, so 40 feet total. I stopped to readjust the boards after 2 cuts (20 feet) and the battery was about 2 bars, so I stuck it on the charger and in about 3 minutes it was back at 4 bars!I would still suggest getting a second battery if you use the router like this for an extended time and let the 2 share the load and have one fully charged at all times to swop out as needed.I will probably get a second battery, in any case, it's SO nice not having to deal with a stupid power cord!!!!Other than that, the router is low profile which gives it some nice stability the taller ones can lack, it's SMOOTH, it has a 73db sound level at just free running which is very tolerable, of course cutting with ANY router will increase the noise level, but this router itself adds very little TO that, being it's only 73db itself.Time will tell on longevity etc., but I'm really liking this kit and I'm happy I purchased it!

One of the best tools ever made

Honestly this thing kicks it.Has all the power you ever need, functions great and can run off my batteries or a cord. Can plunge a couple hundred screw slot holes in laminates on a single 8ah battery and was the last thing I really needed to remove the cord from my jobsites.Actually that's not true, I'd like a full sized fixed based router as well, the red brand cordless one doesn't do the job.

Router Love, Router Hate ... Take it Outdoors ...

The headline describes my view of routers. Absolutely the best solution for a few situations, but even then a pain in the neck. Ear-blistering LOUD, heavy, unbalanced, risky in several respects, and a HUGE mess in the shop and on me. YMMV, obviously.I have a small, crowded shop area in a garage bay that is shared with a lot of storage. I detest using a router in this space because the chips and dust go everywhere, dust collection or not. For me, routing is best done outside, and that's where having a cordless is worth its weight in gold, aside from eliminating the chips and dust problem. The battery makes the router somewhat tippier than a corded, but that's MORE than offset by not dragging a cord around, over, and even occasionally though a project. Cord catches can result in a nasty gouge in your work and I'm not real fond of draping cords over my neck, either.I can't speak to runtimes as I've haven't hit the limit. Mine is typical home project work. 90% of it is probably edge treatments and rabbets. The rest is occasional pattern routing (e.g., a recent industrial sewing machine table top) or dadoes, which I prefer to cut on the table saw anyway. As far a dust collection goes, as another reviewer pointed out, the Metabo's dust collection is only going to help so much on work that's open at the bottom. Since that describes most of my work, it's not a feature that really does much for me.In any case, I really, really like the build of Metabo's recent tools, and have always liked Hitachi's tools anyway. One of their drill-drivers and their 18 gauge cordless nailer have become go-to tools. The Metabo 36v cordless is comfortable, sturdy, and refined. Excellent power. Controllable.Escape the mess. Take it outdoors!

great addition to my cordless setup

works really well. its nice to be able to use the different size collets depending on what I'm routering. the ac adapter also works on this so thats a plus when i have a lot of routering to do and don't wanna kill all my batteries.
