One of my favorite blades
I have purchased all three CRKT blades in this family. The big brother, Hisshou, the little brother Hissatsu, and of course, the Shinbu. CRKT makes a good product. The feel of all three is awesome and well worth the money on Amazon. In terms of sharpness and being ready for action, the Shinbu was the best. Mine came incredibly sharp. I even cut the heck out of my index finger while cleaning all of the grease off the blade. (The blade ships with a bunch of gunk on it to prevent corrosion). I love this blade and it is well worth the money.Off topic, but I was very disappointed with the Hisshou and Hissatsu in terms of sharpness. Out of the box, these two blades could not even cut through paper, let alone shave a few arm hairs. CRKT makes a fantastic knife, but I am afraid that their level of sharpness will be hit and miss with each blade that they sell and ship. For the money that each of these cost, these blades should be ready for anything right out of the box. But despite all of this, I do not regret purchasing any of their products so far. Whether you are looking at the Hisshou, Shinbu, or Hissatsu, these blades feel awesome in the hand. I would hate to be on the wrong end of one of these.

I love CRKT but I won't keep this one
Good steel, good grip, good sheath. Beautiful, a work of art. Came with a display box that I will never use. I don't buy knives to show them off or, put on a shelf to display to the world. I buy them to be used as tools! That being said: this knife is designed to be a slashing stabbing weapon. I think that its only real short coming is it's traditional Japanese design. I know that some of you will call me a heretic but for me its ALL about FUNCTION. It has NO HILT nor a finger guard of any kind. It's not too functional as a stabbing weapon without one! If you loose focus for an instant and strike a bone the knife will stop and your hand will keep moving. I value my fingers and would like to keep them all. I have many CRKT knives, including 4 others by the same designer, and I have given many as gifts, but this one will be sold or traded despite the excellent quality, because I am very hesitant to out it into service.

Great Knife!!
An extremely great knife, the lacquered box is a very nice touch. Like everything I've had from CRKT, it came razor sharp and it's tough as hell to damage. As a knife-aholic I was very pleased with this knife, so much so this is the second one in the series that I bought, Very recommended!

Fleamarket Quality
Disappointed in the Quality for the price. Discolored handle, Cheaply made Sheath. Looks like what you would find in a fleamarket.

Great knife
Love the knife. Reviewed the heck out of it before I purchased. The seller I purchased mine from sent me a blade with deformations in blade, rolled edges and a hump in blade. Contacted crkt and the replaced with a new one. Happy with Amazon, happy with CRKT but not with seller. Other than that the knife is amazing. 9.25 inchs of razor sharp, hair splitting, proper defensive and offensive tool. That and I am pretty sure it would take a limb off it I asked it too. Mine if i wasn't carefull. A must by for your collection.

A practical all purpose COMBAT knife!
I have owned this knife's big sister the Hisshou for about a year and I love it, the Hisshou is a very very powerful slasher that could easily decapitate a person. However, because of its size and the curve of the blade its is a poor stabbing knife, and I would say that while it is great for quick draw and slash it is horrible and a quick stab, It is just too damn big!The Shinbu fixes that problem with little sacrifice. The Shinbu is a excellent slasher that can make deep cuts and probable take off some limbs, and it is a excellent stabbing knife. I would say I like it better then the Hissatsu for stabbing. Its smaller size allows for quick and easy deployment out of the sheath and unlike the Hisshou it does not feel strange to try to stab with it.The sheath allows for customization, easy carry, and rapid deployment. Keep in mind that the blade is YK-30 and it will rust if not maintained, mine came oiled out of the box, and proper cleaning and applying a dab of oil to the blade after use will prevent any rust. All in all the Shinbu is a more practical knife then the Hisshou, while not as powerful as a cutter, its smaller size allows it to be a excellent stabbing knife in addition to being a powerful slasher. The Shinbu is also easier to carry as the Hisshou massive size can allow it to get tangled in gear. If you want a great general purpose COMBAT knife get the Shinbu, if you want to scare the hell out of people get the Hisshou! I have and love both!

Great tanto and seller.
This completes the trio - Hisshou, Shinbu, and Sakimori. I will say I've been very impressed with the quality of all three and the Shinbu may be the best of the lot. Fit and finish are perfect and the sheath is the best fitting yet. It holds the blade securely without any rattle but releases easily. The edge shaved right out of the box and the grip is slim and tight. The presentation box is very well made. And kudos to Knife Port for the quick delivery, which beat the stated delivery window by more than a week.Update - I'll have to deduct half a point - on closer inspection, I noticed that the rayskin under the handle wrap does not match that on the Hisshou or Sakimori. They are much shinier with prominent nodes while the Shinbu rayskin is dull and wrinkled with barely noticeable nodes. Purely cosmetic but still a little disappointing on an otherwise fantastic knife.
