Finish peeling after 2 yrs installed
They work well especially avoiding toe injuries (thats why 2 stars I wanted to give 1 but they do function) but the finish after 2yrs in the elements is bubbling and peeling. I bought these on two different occasions and installed at the same time. I have 2 more that are also starting to do the same. Finish lasted and was beautiful for the first year to year and a half, then started to get chalky by the end of this past boatind season. Which as said before was installed approx 2yrs ago. Not worth the cost, I have a couple of normal cleats that i painted white with regular rustoleum paint and are in better shape than these with the same wear and time in the weather. Not worth the cost. Get the unpainted ones and paint yourself i believe they are cheaper than these.

Prevent paint failure
Great safety feature on a busy dock with kids.Use nylon washers between your fasteners and the cleat. Do not break the paint surface in the pocket holes. I have used these for many years. If you break the paint inside the pocket holes, oxidation will begin there and water will pool and that is where all your paint flaking issues will start from.

well made... almost.
NIce cleats we added to the dock for our sailboat. seem well made and strong enough for our 14' boat. I wanted something that folded down so swimmer would not catch a foot on them when plating and diving off the dock. I took a star off because the white paint was so thick on the metal that the swing-up part of the cleat would hang up at the corner of the base, so badly that I took a grinder to the corner and beveled the corner of the base where the "V" of the cleat hung up.

Is the pass-through feature important to you?
I purchased the 6" white powder-coated flip-up cleat. It is made of aluminum and has a white coating. It does not have a center pass-through for your line. You will need to obtain the mounting hardware (3/8 inch bolts / screws are recommended). It appears to be well made but time will tell. The product in made in China and sold by Dock Edge of Woodbridge, Ontario (Canada). As a temporary mooring cleat, this item will work fine. If I were going to use the cleat frequently, I would obtain the cleat with the pass-through feature for the mooring line since my normal mooring line has a loop at both ends.

No stubbed toes and they work well.
I replaced my old stand up dock cleats with these 6 inch fold down Dock Edge ones. Just had a surprise wind on the lake for 3 hours with a few waves splashing over the side of the hull. The cleats held as well as the stand up ones. No stubbed toes.

Cleat Broke and Chafes Lines
The cleat actually fractured at the pivot, it isn't very strong despite the size (8" cleat). Also, because of the sharp edges or lack of radii, it chafes any lines that you use with it. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Edges of cleat not rounded
Depending on how you mount the cleat and how you tie your boat up, be careful about getting your fingers under the cleat as you are untying. If the line is being tugged by your boat rocking from a passing wave, the cleat could be pulled closed. I am going to reverse mine so the cleat faces inward and the tugging will just pull it vertical. Probably a mounting error on my part.

Good product but pricing may be better elsewhere.
First saw these in CTC for much more money than Amazon so I bought thinking I probably had the best possible price with Amazon. A day later saw them at Home Depot for less money than Amazon. No complaints with the product, they work great, I bought 8 of them. Amazon may not be your best price when you purchase.

Well built, stylish
Bought 4 of them and used them to secure mosquito netting at the bottom on to our deck around our gazebo. They look good, are well built and very functional.

Good design, no sharp edges to catch feet
Good design, no sharp edges to catch feet. The hinge could be smoother and set up to drop when a rope is not attached.Doesn't come with hardware and it is difficult to match the finish. I ended up buying 1/4" stainless nuts, bolts and I picked up a plate to secure it from below.I would have preferred 6" in this design for added strength.
