Borderline tight fit
These do seem to run tight but going up 1/2 size I was afraid they’d be too long in the toe area and I’d be swimming in themThey’re just tight up around the top of my foot but maybe they’ll stretch out. This is my 3rd or maybe even 4 th pair of merrells, didn’t seem to have quite the same tight fitting issues on any of thoseEdit: these took a good 6 miles of hiking until they loosened up a bit for me. I seriously had my doubts in the beginning that I’d be sending these back for being too tightThese are the first waterproof versions I’ve ever bought and the very first thing I did was go stand in the lake on my hike and they kept my feet dry! Stood in 3 different areas to really make sure too so I’m happy about that as there seems to be mixed reviews regarding just how waterproof they really are but I’m impressed so far!Edit: been walking through shallow creeks on our hikes and feet are 100%staying dryFor the discounted price I snatched these up at I’m more than happy with that aspect, now I’m just hoping they break in comfortably

Great buy for $60!
While they're the typical quality you'd expect from Merrell, the extra quality isn't there.I've had many pairs of them through the years and my most notable is the quality and comfort of their products. Had I spent the usual $100-plus for these shoes, they'd have been returned. While everything lines up, side by side, they are visually a little different when you look at them. This may be the reason for their price though Vibrim is usually particular about what product carries their logo. They were extremely uncomfortable at first. Not what I've experienced with any textile product. Usually Merrells are super comfortable, right out of the box.Overall these shoes were bought for hiking and camping in the Carolina mountains so they're purpose built but I've never experienced a break in period with a textile shoe. That's normally more in the over-ankle height, leather boot category. After wearing a few times they have gotten more comfortable. They have a good, sturdy toe point and on wet grass and clay, they were well footed.I am curious about their longevity because their shoes typically outlive their looks for a few years. That said, I always rotate the old shoes in to my yard work shoes and throw them away well before they're dead. I still have a pair of hiking mocs at my in laws house for when we visit and I do outdoor work there, where they have major water drainage issues. They're no newer than 2008 and still nust as comfortable and water tight as they were when I got them. Besides looking like a homeless guy, I'd wear them anywhere that stability and keeping water out would be an issue. Most likely these will last just as long but, there's got to be a reason they were only $60.00 ($75-$110 elsewhere) and it may be that they're not very attractive and not the normal quality shoe that they turn out.Again, they're Merrells and they were only $60. I'm probably setting the bar in the $120 shoe range and had I paid that, they'd have been returned. Otherwise the reason for 4 stars was really the break in time and aesthetics. So far they feel like a great hiking shoe I the under 80 dollar range. I will loop around after some gorge time on wet rocks and steep hills to update. I'd really like to give them the 5 stars they so deserve but now it's a solid 4 star.

Read the Reviews
I did my due diligence and read the reviews. I wear a size 10 and everyone says step up a half size so I went ahead and did so. They fit pretty well and I'm glad I went up half a size. Only reason for the 4 stars are the way the tongue sits. When I first put them on where I circled I was concerned it might be too uncomfortable. That said when I got out and was walking/running I didn't notice them. It was only while sitting around not moving did they begin to annoying me. Since these will only be my "active" shoes I am going to keep them but if I were going to use for all day everyday use other than just active I would probably be returning them. Also I am hoping thise hot points will soften over time.Pros-good tread-didn't need any break-in that I felt.-good price pointCons-tonge folds

Good longevity, not the best-looking shoe
I've had a pair for a couple years now and walked/hike approximately 500 miles. The soles still look almost brand new.. Hardly any wear at all. They're comfortable and roomy. But I had to take a star off because they are not the best looking shoe around. A bit too "round" in appearance, IMO.

Excellent First Class Shoe, but I always buy 1/2 size bigger.
Great shoes, I am a UK standard size 8. With these shoes, I always buy 1/2 size bigger, that is the only negative remark. I have had 3 pairs of these shoes, having been tempted by others, and then coming back to Merrell.
