T is for Tar Heel: A North Carolina Alphabet

This is a great book with specific details about places in North Carolina. Can be read quickly with just the main portion of the text or in parts to include the details of each place in North Carolina. It is great to use for a grammar lesson for Person, Place or Thing. Type some of the places and things listed in the story and make copies. Then, have students make a three-way chart to categorize each item as Person, Place, or Thing. Students cut items on paper apart and paste in the correct categories of the chart.

She and I are both UNC-CH alums and her Mother is a certified preschool teacher in a Montessori school! I pride myself on my gift giving choices and I was in great company sharing a literary gift (along with the Mother of the Mother-to-be!

T is for Tar Heel: A North Carolina Alphabet Our children were born in North Carolina, but we moved them to Nashville 12 years ago. i found this book series --one for each state--that highlights what is unique and also historical about each state. I have one for all the places the kids have lived. As they are grown now--I'm giving them these books to keep for their children to read about the states where they grew up. They are well illustrated and share fun facts about the State in an easy to read/understand format.

I like that it has a general overview of North Carolina's points of interest. I also like that it is a board book. My toddler can learn about his state and be interactive with turning the pages himself.

I'm a 4th grade teacher and use this book as a project in my social studies class - after a year of studying NC history, we read this book and each child gets a letter and makes their own page for our own version of this book. It's fun and a great way to wrap up our year-long study. The book has great illustrations and good explanations of what each letter stands for.

The Discover America alphabet series are great books for all readers! Elementary age can read them and they are full of great state facts and history. I love reading through them each time I get my hands on a new one.

I have rated this wonderful book five stars because it was described accurately by the seller and arrived quicker than the date anticipated. This book is for my daughter, who requested it for teaching SS in fourth grade. The children will enjoy the colorful illustrations in addition to learning the interesting facts about North Carolina.
