It's cotton and has no rubber backing, so yes it does slip when placed directly on floors. BUT, I have a rubber backed rug in front of my sink right next to my shower. When I shower, I place this cotton rug on top of that rug, when done I pick up and place back on the side of the tub. I LOVE this rug. Its 100% cotton, very thick and absorbent. I strongly suggest you wash and dry this separately as it sheds. After a year of use and many washings/dryings mine is still thick and beautiful.
