Pilot fountain pen ink iroshizuku Old Man Winter

Everything about the Iroshizuku range of ink is superb. The colors, the consistency, and not least the bottle itself. Although no longer handmade (I'm told) they are still every bit as elegant. Actually the one I received had enough individual character to make me think it might well be handmade. It refracts the light in a most appealing way. Fuyu-syogun is a delicate hue that goes on dark and quickly dries to a cool grey. Formal enough for serious writing, stylish enough for everything else. The only problem with Iro is that I really want to collect the set. Which would be crazy. Would that be crazy?

This gray, with a hint of blue, truly captures the fealing of a cold winter day. The ink is very expressive, with quite a lot of shading and flow is very good. Not too wet, but definitely not dry. From a fine nib, the color is fairly dark, making it good for every day writing. All in all, this is a perfect ink for being locked up inside during a pandemic winter.

I haven't tested it with water yet to see how water resistant it is, but it is quite a fine ink. I write with Japanese Extra Fine fountain pen nibs, and they don't "like" or work well with a number of inks, but they do with this ink. I have written on Kokuyo paper with this ink, and it doesn't feather, bleed through, or clog my pen. I expect it will also write well on HP Premium32 LaserJet printer paper. It appears to be a shade or so darker than graphite pencil lead marks. It's quite lovely.

This is an excellent grey ink; I like it in stubs and broad nibs. I need a larger calligraphy nib collection to really test it out.

A wonderful, moody color. Lays down on paper rather wet and a darker gray but dries lighter, appearing almost like a No. 2 pencil. Except this offers some really beautiful shading. Very subtle and refined. The name says it all.

Just like all Iroshizuku inks... wonderful flow, good properties. It's really nice. However, be aware what you're getting. This is a very light color -- similar to something like Sailor Manyo Haha in saturation. So if you want something with high contrast, this isn't what you need. It is a gray that leans bluish and shows decent shading when put down heavy. I wouldn't try this in fine or dry pens, though, because it's going to be very similar to a hard pencil in color; and it will probably be hard to read. It's way more interesting than black but be aware that uses for it are pretty niche. Think what it would be like if you had very watered-down black.

In my opinion, Iroshizuku makes the best ink on the planet! I love how it glides onto the paper ever so smoothly. Makes even inexpensive pens work better. It's a semi-wet ink that dries quickly and the colors are really remarkable. An artist's dream. Not to mention the most beautiful bottle going. Worth every penny. I LOVE these inks!

The ink colour is pretty beautifull, a kind of gray with a little trace of blue. 50ml is a good size and the bottle glass is thick. I love non common ink colours, I will try another in the future.

This is my fifth product orders via amazon and each time I got a perfect product. I recommend this product to those who enjoy unique colours, high quality and of cores relatively low price.

Yes, it's a little expensive for 50ml coloured water, but what a colour! Fuyu-syogun is a very pleasing bluish gray which I've not seen elsewhere. It's not as vague or soft as I'd imagined it to be - it's very readable.
