Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking

Surprising
I have tried to quit on and off for years through varied methods. Some worked better than others but none stuck. Nicotine gum did nothing, vaping only extended the gaps between smokes, Wellbutrin worked best in reducing but not quitting and was expensive. I tend to be suspicious of self help books but finally relented. For the price of 2 packs, I figured why not. This is no literary masterpiece. The language is simple, sometimes bordering on simplistic. It took a while to figure out what was going on as It takes a while to get to the point but the protracted preambles prove important. I realized that effectively the book simply tells you what you already know but puts you in a position where you have the reconsider the narrative about all things cigarette. All the book does is flip your perception. It is almost stupidly simple to the point where you start questioning the validity of the approach . To be fair, it has been just over a week, but it is the first time I suffered absolutely zero cravings. In the past, the first few days were always unbearably excruciating but this time around, I can’t quite explain it, but they have been a breeze. I don’t want to oversell it as I do not know what the future holds, But I never experienced quitting in this way. Early days but I feel like a non smoker for the first time in decades as opposed to an ex smoker trapped in a perpetual struggle of cravings and desire. Sort of like an abusive ex lover who you can’t stay away for every long but then one day you get a clear picture of who they really are and it’s b-bye…

Free at last
I am 3 weeks smoke free after reading Mr. Carr's book. His simple logic in demolishing the myths of why we smoke had the greatest impact on me, and enabled me to see the ways in which I was lying to myself about my need for cigarettes. The repetition is part of the method: Carr used the hypnosis tactics used during his own personal session and managed to weave them into narrative book form. That is the real genius and simplicity of it all.The only criticism I have is this: Carr deliberately plays down the physical effects of nicotine withdrawal with constant messages about how mild it is. This is meant to program your brain into believing it is so mild as to be almost non-existent, so when you begin experiencing withdrawal, you won't even notice. This worked for me for exactly one week. I awoke on Day 8 a sobbing, screaming, sleep deprived maniac and stayed that way for a week, until I found an online website called Why Quit that is a tremendous help in explaining the actual chemical properties of nicotine and how to handle withdrawal of it. I had no desire for a smoke anymore - Carr did cure me of that. But nicotine withdrawal is real, and for me, I needed more than a hypnotic mantra about how mild it is.I could not have done it - or even attempted it - without this book. I feel like I have been set free from a lifelong prison sentence. If the American Lung Association, Cancer Institute, et. Al., truly want Americans to stop smoking, they would do well to send a copy to every smoker.*** YEAR AND A HALF LATER, STILL SMOKE FREE!! THANK YOU, MR. CARR!***

Believe in yourself - you can do it
This book is like a comforting friend that you can reach out to in times of need. Yes it can be repetitive because Alan Carr is trying to hammer home the message that you do NOT NEED to smoke. The same points do come up a lot - but they’re all true, and he never puts you down or makes you feel dumb or weak. He’s just a voice of reason and it really resonated with me. I actually ended up quitting before I reached the end of the book, which I honestly didn’t expect. This book changed the way I view the addiction and the perceived “need” to smoke. If you are ready to make some great changes in your life, give this book a try. You can do it!

I started smoking when I was 21. It slowly engulfed my life, caused weight gain, decrease in physical activity, stress, hostility from friends, hiding secrets from my family, sleeping problems, loss of productivity at work, and just missing out on so many moments in life.I was a pack a day smoker for 7 years. I tried so many ways to quit - Chantix, Nicoderm patches, Nicorette gum, e-cigarettes, and cold turkey. I always broke down around day 7-10. Once I made it a month, I was on the road, and my e-cigarette broke...you can guess the rest. Please free yourself from tobacco. I kid you not, I read this book, and it just clicked. I no longer needed cigarettes. The withdrawals were manageable and I embraced them. I was a little irritable sure. I've come to realize now that was because I always ran out on my problems before to have a smoke and contemplate and now I am facing them head on. I'm learning with new ways to deal with stress and my productivity at work is going through the roof.I sleep so much better. My complexion looks amazing. My smile looks stellar. My sex drive is awesome. My bank account is a littler larger. My friendships have improved. My car and clothes smell better. I have more time to devote to other hobbies. Two months later and I rarely think about having a smoke. When I do. it's not a danger to the success I've achieved as I know I will never have enough puff as long as I live.

Excellent !
Who would think a book could do what it claims to quit smoking ?!?! I’m an ex smoker so I bought it to help my husband . Right off the first page you can tell it’s not a book that lectures or gets too heavy . It really debunks a lot of the things we believe when quitting and you are in good hands with this book. I was amazed how my husband just quit and no big withdrawal or suffering . Two years still not smoking . He was really surprised how much this book supported him and gave him a different perspective about quitting . I’ve passed this along to a few friends too . You ll be glad you got this
