Should be required reading for every coaching program!
This book stands out as the ultimate guide to coaching, offering unparalleled insights and practical wisdom. From the chemistry meeting to navigating the intricacies of coaching sessions—both before, during, and after—the authors provide a comprehensive roadmap for successful coaching. What sets this book apart from so many other books I’ve read is its wealth of valuable resources, including "top tips," thought-provoking questions, advice on conducting 360 feedback, sample emails, and a plethora of incredibly useful information. For the first time I found myself truly understanding what the coaching engagement would look like, and getting answers to questions I didn't know to ask but also those I hesitated to ask, assuming I should have already known the answers. I have returned to this book as a reference and I know I will continue to do so. It is an indispensable tool in my coaching library. This book should be required reading for everyone in a coaching program. Whether you're considering this book for yourself or someone else, just buy it! You’ll be glad you did. And, if you are looking for the perfect gift for a new coaching graduate, or someone just embarking on their coaching career - this is THEE book. It is a gift to us that accomplished coaches like Laura and Julie have shared their learnings for our benefit. I look forward to reading their future publications!

An absolute gem! THE guide on how to naigate an executive coaching engagement.
This book is full of practical insights and resources on how to navigate an executive coaching engagement. It also includes several sample tools and checklists, along with the Intentional Coaching Framework, which is helpful in understanding the key components of an engagement.Do Your Best Coaching is a fast and easy read since it is told through the eyes of a coach, Andie, as she works with a leader on his specific goals. Not only does this show the framework in a helpful way, it also reveals Andie's inner dialogue about how she feels as she navigates the engagement. This book is truly a gem for both new and experienced coaches. I really wish I had it when I first started coaching and it's one of the first books I recommend to others wanting to get into executive coaching. It's also great for experienced coaches who are looking to enhance their toolkits. Check it out!

I'll keep coming back to this book!
I'm so glad that I have this book!Hess & Daley have written a clear guide to the coaching methodology augmented by examples from their years of experiences as coaches. As someone who went through coach training in the last couple of years, at first I wasn't sure how this book would fit with what I learned. Would it be consistent with the methodology I learned? Would it add anything to the conversation? The sections on establishing a good relationship with and securing the client engagement and conducting 360s were very practical for me and went beyond the level of detail I had learned in my coaching courses. Other chapters reaffirmed and reminded me of much that I had learned before and serve as a good reference point. Also included in the book are coaching competencies and a SUPER HELPFUL "sticky situations matrix" that demonstrate the authors' deep experience with the types of issues that can arise.I am happy to say that I can see returning to this book over and over as my coaching practice evolves. Right now, I really need to refresh myself on many of the more detailed practices and ground myself again in the value to the client of the coach's intentional intervention. I don't doubt that over time as my experience level increases and my needs change, this book will continue to offer a lot.

A must read for seasoned and aspiring coaches
I was fortunate to have this book launch early in my coaching career and it landed at the perfect time. It put much needed detail and meat on the bones of my training and helped me focus on what mattered most to improve and add value to clients. I highly recommend this book to other coaches I work with and to others looking for a timeless guide they can refer to again and again.

It’s okay
I learned the same lesson in my coach training school. Nothing new being taught. Returning it.

Fills a gap in coaching literature - important resource for coaches of all skill levels.
Among the dozens of books that line my shelves on the topics of coaching and leadership development, I tend to refer and use less than ten. This will be one of them. I am an experienced coach with over a dozen years of working with clients in large corporations and not for profits. While I have developed my own methods and tools, I found it helpful to see how the authors' distilled and shared their research and own experience. I have recommended this book to new coaches that I mentor and coach as a must have resource as well as to colleagues who are well established. This resource is squarely focused on how to navigate the engagement - a topic not covered in most coaching institutes. Using this book will help new coaches fast track through the unknown pathways of how to successfully navigate a coaching engagement including: the overall flow of the engagement highlighting four key phases; a roadmap of who are the key stakeholders and how to establish the most effective partnership with each; tools for the key deliverables (e.g. 360 interviews, development plans). The authors have presented the material from a coach's experience which made the reading very relatable. I was reminded me of how easy it can be to move too quickly from building rapport to coaching without taking the time to fully establish the foundation of coaching - what it is, what it is not, the nuance of roles and responsibilities of coach and client, and the pace one might expect in this type of work.

A must read for all coaches
I loved the book and found it a very valuable read. I enjoyed the structure of the model, the simplicity and clarity. The story woven into each chapter made it really engaging, as did the stories the authors shared of their experiences and those of coaches they interviewed. I think it should be part of all coaching school syllabuses!
