A Relief for the Gardeners in The Middle
I am grateful for this book. Cathy is spot on with her comment that many gardening books have an east coast bias. So often plants which appear in a catalog to be appropriate to our harsh conditions end up failing. Lobelia might appear appropriate for zone 6a in a catalog, but on the plains and prairies it may actually be suited for only spring. This book contains tried and true varieties and species. I appreciate that Cathy identifies particular varieties, so that you learn what is suitable. For example a Wave Petunia is perhaps better suited for success than other varieties, so she recommends them. Looking forward to reading her other books.

Wish it had more suggestions.
Great pictures and some helpful hints. Covers a large area and several zones. Many suggestions were to order plants from online sources which I am sure is fine but i would prefer to stick to plants at the local nursery. 4 stars as this book could easily have been larger with more suggestions. At the end of the day I felt this was an introductory guide to midwest gardening ready for a more advanced book.
