holy hotness, what do we have here!
Ok so where to even begin….I adore how this book is so well set up, there is truly history between these characters. I struggled with their reason for being apart a little though understood and it tore at my heartstrings how neither let each other go over the 12 years they were separated. The author really takes her time in this book to build the world around the wider series and give us a good enough understanding of the “team” that we immediately crave their stories too.Lily was living a lie, had loved through so much once Shane left and yet owned it all and once given the option of walking away from it all, was so willing to be all in with her heart.Shane/Lennox was just the book boyfriend we all want. Driven equally by his heart and head (and that other piece of male anatomy at times too!) he truly didn’t know how to reconcile his past colliding with his future and when given a taste of what happiness could be like, then having his fears brought to life, he reacted as most of these alpha protective types do. I loved how Lily dealt with that.A great read from page 1, this series started will start you down a rabbit hole you make not come back out of for a while if this is a new-to-you author (welcome to the madness!!)

sweet, sad and wonderful love story
Lilly and Shane/Lennox grow up as best friends in a whole different world than we would ever understand, and that's with families that have lots of money and businesses, but no real interest in their children's lives, unless they're dictating to them what to do and not do. Shane joins the Army and then quickly gets hired into a Black Ops Military group 707, and literally has to kill himself off to protect his childhood love from ever getting caught up in any of his missions, but sadly their is a traitor amongst his team that no one realized until too late. Now, I'm not going to focus on how many women Lennox slept with or men for Lilly, because it proves no point in the story. They've both loved each other forever and when they finally get together their love knows no bounds, then harsh words are spoken and hearts broken even more, since Lennox still has military obligations and doesn't want Lilly to suffer over him in case an op goes awry. Lilly winds up pregnant and Lennox finds her again to start an even better and lasting loving relationship. Some folks actually scorned Lilly for continuing to forgive Shane, but if your heart loves a person for as long as she/they have, and he did it for good reasons, then the heart just forgives. I really enjoyed this story and the epilogue and now beginning to read about Jasper. I actually bought this book in November 2018, but it didn't hold my complete attention at the time, but I read the first book in Riley's "Next Generation" genre and loved it, so I decided to go back and read this book from the beginning. Very glad I did.
