I bought three books and this one was the best
When I was starting the process of buying my first house, I bought this book (actually, the first edition from 1994), along with two others. One of the others was "Kiplinger's Buying and Selling a Home" and was decent enough. The other one was so bad that I threw it out and now forget what the title was. Sorry. This one, however, was perfect for my needs. I didn't know much of anything about real estate transactions, but I'm a sharp guy and I just needed someone to walk me through the whole process. Ms. Glink does just that it in an easy-to-read Q&A style, and I read it cover to cover.By the end of the book, I wasn't an expert but I knew enough that I could speak intelligently with my buyer's agent about my needs and was able to make good decisions regarding financing et cetera. My sister is buying her first house now, and I'm recommending this book to her. You should get it too.

Excellent guide to home purchases
I had read the reviews before purchasing this book and I am quite delighted with it. I read this book in like two days and it really apprised me of what I needed to know before proceeding with the purchase of our home such as the possible pitfalls and just basically what to expect throughout the purchase from the required documents and paperwork involved to the closing.I especially liked the legal advice and it was quite influential in our choice of attorney and provided us with the questions to ask our attorney and broker. In some respect, it gave me a new perspective on the seller's point of view.I would recommend this to anyone who is seriously considering purchasing a home.

The best I have read yet
I have read 5 books on home buying in preparation of purchase of a new home and this book has been the best of them (I also recommend "How to save Thousands of Dollars on your Home Mortgage"). The book deals with mortgage, realtors, home inspection, price negotiation, and closing. Unless you are a real estate professional, you will learn plenty from this book. It also helps the author is a very fluid writer and her explainations are precise and easy to understand. My only gripe is despite its 500 pages, the book is too short! The last 150 pages are spent on appendix and the book has a large print. Yes, the book is concise but at the expense of being more comprehensive. But I am being picky here, you will not regret picking this book over others in the market.

So, so...
It's a very good book. I just didn't learn much from it. It was a good reference. I guess I knew 90% of what was in here because I watch too much HGTV & DIY. But was also a good refresher to what I already knew.If you don't watch these shows, then this is a good book for you.

Forget 'Dummies'. Listen to Ilyce!
I'm in the process of learning about buying a home. I've read 5-6 books on the subject. Some books explain things a bit but still leave you with questions. Other books seem to "preach" their philosophy but that may not be right for everyone. By far the best book, I've read has been "100 Questions Every First-Time Home Buyer Should Ask, Second Edition : With Answers from Top Brokers from Around the Country" by Ilyce R. Glink. This book is incredibly easy to read, but thorough enough to answer the questions that the other books left me asking. Whether you're a first time buyer or someone looking to brush up on home buying...this book is for you.

Helped settle my nerves!
I really enjoyed this book. The author included helpful annecdotes to illustrate the points she was making. The book is formatted very clearly, with great insets for first time buyers, or those buying new construction. I also really like the 20/20 hindsight blurbs. This helped me gain confidence in my quest for home ownership. Her writing style is light and easy to read, but not flippant. She acknowledges the stress you are going through and does a good job of putting it in perspective - at least for me. A lot of what I read didn't seem to be applicable to today's Seattle, but it still gave me a great overview of what I was going to face.

Very informative first-time-buyer basics
Although I ended up reading this from front to back, the structure of the book makes it really easy to just choose questions you need answered. I thought this was quite comprehensive and had some really good tips I hadn't seen elsewhere. I'm not sure if the most recent edition came out since the most recent Home Buying for Dummies, but it felt more recent. I also liked that she was way more open to more modern mortgage structures and not just obsessed with fixed rate mortgages.

Love this book -- for anyone who wants to really understand buying a home
The book is a little outdated (which I knew when ordering) as it was written before the mortgage meltdown circa 2008, however as a mortgage banker and loan officer this book was indispensable when I first started in terms of putting the whole process in context.
