Thin ... but warm! Ear coverage for we "Top Bun Girls"
I'll be re-entering the workforce next month, during winter in the frigid northeast, and I'll be hoofing from the car in a very windy area. My long hair will need to be tied up, and a hat won't be ideal. I came to Amazon searching for ear muffs and the algorithm introduced me to this whole Buff line. I'm grateful because the ear muffs were all a bit on the large side for me personally. How I missed this cool product all these years is beyond me! I was concerned when I opened the package that this wool is so thin, almost sheer, but I've been testing it out in the house and I'm burning up. Bunching it up creates pockets of warm air, similar to the concept of how down works. I think if it's extremely windy and Polar Vortex levels of cold I'll need more for my ears. But for most days this will work just great. I don't have a large head and can see trying the Junior size in future for a closer fit, but I feel the loose bunching on this is what I need to trap warmth. Could go either way to be honest. High quality merino wool. No seam! Love the lush grey that will go with everything. This will be a practical and versatile addition to my winter accessories collection. Now to choose an original Buff for my summer camping trips! I'm guessing these are perfect for keeping pesky no-see-ums out of my ears without drenching myself in DEET or having to wear a hoodie on hot humid days!

Versatile, comfortable, warm—what's not to love?
What a great product! I saw someone else wearing something like this as a neck gaiter, and decided to get one myself.I took mine along on my last camping trip. Fantastic! I used it as a neck gaiter when it was chilly, then over my ears & part of my head (under my hat) when it was cold. When there was a cool wind blowing off the lake, I pulled it up over my face. When it got warm during the day, I just pulled it off and shoved it in my pack or in a breast pocket. At night, in my sleeping bag, I wore it over my neck, ears, and head, instead of a cap. In warmer weather, I'll put it around my inflatable pillow, to use in lieu of the bandana that was trying, and failing, to be a pillowcase.I'm going to take this with me when I go skiing, and wear it with, maybe even under, my neoprene face mask. I think it will also go with me the next time I fly, in case it gets a little chilly on the plane. This is a great little multi-tasker that weighs next to nothing, is super soft and comfortable, and provides just the right amount of warmth and protection. Thumbs up!

LOVE it, but it's a bit large
I use the UV protection buffs in the summer and just adore the product. They're really versatile, so I can have a Sahrain, hat, headband, whatever depending on whether I'm running, biking, hiking, or trying to hide horrible helmet hair. As it got colder, the need for a warmer Buff arose. I poked around online and saw that there was this wool version. I ordered it before my last century bike ride of the season, and it arrived just in time. The high that day was 41 degrees and happened at the END of the 100 miles. We rode most of the morning in sub-30 degree temperatures. This thing kept me warm and because of the extra-long size it worked very well as a helmet linter. The only problem is that it's a TINY bit too big (my head circumference is 23 inches) so it was a bit droopier than I would have liked and will not stay put around my face. My summer Buffs fit perfectly so I wasn't expecting this. Despite the size issue (which is minor) I still use this thing constantly! After the century I have been using the Buff on a daily basis for winter bike commuting. It's super-warm, but thin so it fits well under my helmet. I wear it every day, usually twisted around as a winter hat with a thicker brim over my ears. The wool keeps me toasty and even though I've done some biking in pretty cold temps already this fall, I've been toasty warm under the helmet. I definitely recommend this product, but if you have a smaller head than I do and want to use the wool Buff as a balaclava I would be careful as it may be too big for that.

Best Item I Bought Before a Week Long Bicycle Trip
At the last minute, I ordered this Buff Merino Wool neck / face protector for a week long bicycle ride through western Virginia and Tennessee. This was the best thing I bought for the trip and one of the best items I had with me. Some mornings we started out around freezing (32F; one day with snow on the ground). Other days it was warmer but windy - 40s to 50s with winds gusting to 30mph through the mountains.I was able to keep my face comfortable on the bicycle hour after hour with the Buff around my neck. On the cold days, I doubled it up and brought it up to the bottom of my sunglasses and over my ears. It kept my nose and mouth warm and prevented wind from getting under my helmet liner at my ears. On the warmer days, I would pull it up in a single layer when the winds were really gusting or on the cooler descents. It also protected my neck and face from the sun.A great item. I highly recommend this. I will use it for cycling, hiking, walking, jogging, and many other activities. The merino wool was still warm even with moisture on it from me breathing, and it was also not too hot when it got warmer. The magic of merino wool. Extremely happy with this product so far!

LOVE the color (solid garnet)
I am so picky about my shades of red, so ordered this half expecting to have to send it back. But it’s perfect! Nice and deep, and it tips towards the cool end of the spectrum rather than warm.Oh, and it’s a great merino wool gaiter as well! Can’t go wrong… I originally started looking at these just to be able to cover my face when I walk on icy cold days. Great for that! But I also love that I can wear it like a balaclava, which all often do under a beanie and another scarf if it’s really cold out. And sometimes I just wear it to take the chill off my neck. The twist and fold method for wearing it as a beanie is pretty darn cool as well. And of course as headband / ear warmers… So versatile!Bought a black one for a friend, and he wears it every day.

This has replaced me wearing hats!
Don't get me wrong, I still wear hats, but if I'm going to be sweating, this will be under the hat for sure!Even on the hottest day, this helps to keep me cooler! It definitely keeps the sweats from dripping into my eyes and the sun from burning my middle-aged thinning hair.Definitely want to buy more but omg, merino wool is pricey (but soo worth it!).Highly recommend but needs to be at the right price lol.
