Instrument Flying Handbook (2025): FAA-H-8083-15B (ASA FAA Handbook Series)

This is definitely something every pilot should have in their collection whether you are a weekend flyer or a career aviator. I purchased this book along with several others to use as a part of my self guided instrument refresher course and it was worth every penny. I have been out of the IFR loop for a while and its time to get back up to par. These books are very informative and and in debt. Definitely a must have for any pilot with an instrument rating or anyone pursuing their instrument rating.

This is the FAA handbook which is found on their website put into print in a book. It is exactly the same and the book is very professionally made. It is a good size with a good sized font and clear color copies. While some people point out that it can be obtained for free on the FAA's website, that's not really true as it is not in print. So you either need to read it straight from their website or print it out. But if you decide to print it out, it will NOT come out to be free at all. Before purchasing this book, I printed out the FAA handbook and was later sorry I did that rather than just buy this book for this price. I ended up spending more money on black and color printer ink, paper, and a binder than what this book cost. It was also a lot of work printing almost 400 pages and then punching holes into all of them to put into the binder. The binder also ended up being much thicker, bulkier, heavier, more inconvenient to carry around and less professional. So buying this book is definitely worth it as it will save money, time, work and will be much better quality than a printout the FAA handbook.

Concerned about this product because of all the prior reviews. First positive, it came sealed in a plastic wrap so it stayed in perfect shape. I had intended to let the gift recipient unwrap it, but given the reviews I needed to check if it was black and white. To my pleasant surprise, all images were in color and the font was easy to read. I’m sure the pilot in your life will be happy with this book given it’s as expected!

A good book for learning the basics of Instrument Flying. Crisp and clear printing and well bound. As others have stated, it is available for free in a PDF, but I like a professionally bound copy for reference later. I am a new pilot, but I am still referring to my FAA handbooks for my private certificate. I imagine the instrument handbook will be the same.

It’s 2021, this book is from 2012. Their 2021 version is only in black and white. Why? I know there have been changes in IFR procedures but I’m guessing both are the same material. I’ll compare and edit this review.Compared the 2021 and the 2012 books - both are identical EXCEPT, the 2021 is black and white with fuzzy images. Get the 2012 version.

A must for instrument students

It’s a must buy for every pilot who wants to start flying IFR... no matter if ppl or commercial, it’s a complete and super well made handbook for IFR. I did my commercial IR training with that and I was super happy. Highly recommended!

instをとるためには必須のテキストである。ただ、FAAのテキストシリーズは全文がカラーで無料でFAAのホームページからダウンロードできるので、節約したい場合には、あえて本を買わなくても大丈夫。実際、フライトスクールでもアメリカ人のほとんどは、FAAのHPのものをダウンロードしてiPADで読んでいてそれで事足りている。ただ日本人としては、線を引いたり、付箋をつけたり、訳を書き込んだりすることが多いと思うので、これを購入している人が多いのが実際。自社養成の訓練生もアメリカでの訓練ではほとんどが購入していると思う。値段もそれほど高くないので、日本人であれば購入して勉強することをお勧めする。なお、鳳文堂書店から「計器飛行」という名前で翻訳もでているのは以外と知られていないｗ。オーラル対策にはもちろん原著が手元にあった法が有利だが、原著はFAAからDL、訳書は購入という方法も可能。
