Distributed Java 2 Platform Database Development (Sun Microsystems Press Java Series)

Good, but.... no CD!!
This book is great. It is one of the very few books around that covers Java RMI and database connections. It tells you everything you need to know about the code listings contained in the book and, specifically, how to create sql without repeating yourself all the time. It goes through how to create your own database API, how to create your own RMI server for use with the API and how to create clients in java swing, CLI and JSP/Servlets. It also tells you how to create monitoring tools for use with your server, explaining everything as it goes along. The only reason that im not giving this book a full five stars is because it is slightly limited in its scope. It tells you how to build a completely distributed system, but only tells you how to build it using Java under Linux with Oracle 8, which is fine as you can dual boot, but oracle 8i is a 600mb download. Also, all examples of makefiles are linux shell scripts, windows bats would have been useful too. These are all thing that could have been put in a cd, but for some reason werent
