A Flicker in the Dark: A Novel

Twists
Twists and turns! Thought I knew who it was... I didn't until the end. I wish there would've been more resolution at the end.... The main climax of the story ended then it felt like the story just kind of stopped.SPOILERS:I felt the addition of "Tyler" to the story, once revealed seemed unnecessary. I liked his "character" better in the capacity he was playing prior... His part of the reveal seemed far fetched and unreasonable. The explanation of his part by the narrator felt lack luster... Why would the "Big Bad" suddenly decide, after 20 years, to start having someone else act as "Big Bad" on his behalf? And be trying to mislead the narrator? This made no sense for me.The mother suddenly falling ill and pulling both children back, only to have found a way to communicate with the daughter, but we don't actually wait to see what the mother has to say? Would've liked some follow up to this.Would've liked some epilogue explanation involving the father... That just seemed to fade away. "We hate him. He's evil.. Until he's not but we don't want any dialogue on that?"I don't understand how the "new" victims were designated (2019...) Unless I missed it? It made more sense for them to have been chosen with the way the story seemed to have been setting up the bad guy all along. (The "obvious" big bad they try to confuse you with around halfway through the book.) ...BIG SPOILERR - the explanation for Daniel being the bad guy and going after the victims he does makes more sense than revealing it to be who it is with the limited explanation we get for everything going on now . .. I guess to conclude this felt like a really well thought out story that had great context that wasn't applied correctly. It was like the prologue that you go into the story already feeling was wrapped up .. Wraps up again at the end but we get little to no explanation for what has gone on in current time.I liked the plot and the story. I liked the description and writing. The ending just felt like it fell flat.

Another book that I connected with and I was unable to put down.
I'm glad my luck is holding. Another book that I connected with and I was unable to put down.Chloe Davis is a psychologist in the present time. She is trying to help teenagers and their trauma. After all, she knows something about trauma. When she was twelve, she discovered her father was a serial killer and he went to jail for it but the bodies were never found. This impacted her life and her older brother's life too.Chloe is engaged to be married and she is thinking that life is finally giving her some happiness when a teenager goes missing and then another one after her. The situation seems too coincidental and it's eerie how much these cases have in common with what her dad confessed to. Is there a copycat? Does she know him? Is she close to him?Read it to find out.So what did I enjoy about A Flicker in the Dark?I did enjoy this unreliable narrator despite her addiction to pills (which is new for me since I hate when the female character is impaired and is not sure if things that are happening around her are true or she is just imagining it). I was reading and listening as fast as I could.Did I guess the plot?Yep, from the very beginning but despite that I was able to root for Chloe.Did I like the ending?I think it was fitting.Am I happy it will be a limited series on TV?I didn't know Emma Stone was interested in this novel before I read it but I'm glad this book will be coming to life on my TV.Cliffhanger: No4/5 FangsI'm glad my luck is holding. Awesome twist
This book is a must read for all the thriller lovers. The plot is perfect and 5 stars for story telling and twists. The book stayed on my mind long after finishing as well

Too predictable
It is a well written thriller for which I had great expectations. Unfortunately, I guessed the supposed-to-be major twist very fast, and it really spoiled the suspense I hoped for. The author gave too many clues right from the start, which made the storyline too predictable in my opinion. It wasn't hard at all to put two and two together. Then she tried to make another character look suspicious, but it didn't work, at least not for me. There was a little surprise towards the end, but too far-fetched, and I was unsatisfied with the ending: some questions remain unanswered.

Kept hooked till the end
The writing is quite interesting and the plot is same ole but it does keep you guessing. Definitely a page turner.

edge-of-your-seat story with plot twists you’ll never see coming - NOT
Why don‘t I learn from my own experience? Critically acclaimed, hailed - debut wonder…. NOTOkay, the story isn‘t a bad one and you might feel tempted to feel for the heroine and her twisted past and drug problems and trust issues, shagging what‘ll hold still long enough and what not.Maybe it‘s decades of reading whodunnits, but neither did this story keep me on the edge of my seat nor was the solution a revelation - actually my first guess proved right… and the way to get there was sort of long-winded - especially the last few chapters… I had to fight to actually finish the book.I wouldn‘t say dead boring, because that wouldn‘t do it justice either, but you wouldn‘t miss overly much if you skipped this title.
