Compass is black like there is none fitted.
The quality is ok though on receipt the compass is not in existence, the lens has black particles and hair within the prism. The telescopic view is good as expected though not a good product overall - the compass was an important element as using on a boat - disappointed.

better than expected
clear, easy to focus (a little stiff, but that'll keep it from moving - can still adj with one finger), transmits enough light to use at night (this is not a night vision optic, but is usable on a clear night). the compass is very readable and steady, and can be illuminated for night use with a small pen light... .. 4 stars b/c a couple minor gripes: the provided strap won't fit over my big (XXL gloves) hand, the back lens cap can't be attached to the monocular (I guess it could be with a piece of string, it has a slot), the vertical ranging marks are out of focus regardless of where I set the optical focus ring unless I focus on it and let the target go out of focus (yet the compass and horizontal lines are fine), lastly, the formula for using the ranging marks to determine distance made no sense to me (but easy enough to use one I was familiar with)... all in all, would recommend at the price...

Compass or Scope Take Your Pick
I think you can make due if you are viewing a fixed object, but if you are viewing a moving object I think you have the wrong tool. You can sight in an object, and shift the position of your eye away from the object and then you can see the compass. When I first attempted to use this device my first reaction was were is the compass? You can find the compass below, and you can find the object to view above, but who has eyes that can see both? A fly maybe?
