The Midnight Club - as seen on Netflix

Beautiful story but misleading
First let me say that this is not what you think it is. It is not a horror. It is not even a thriller. This is a heartbreaking story about the final weeks of terminally ill teens who like to meet up at midnight and tell each other stories. There is not a single scary part to this book though. Despite this, it was beautiful and made me sob when I finished it. I would still 100% recommend but remember that it is nothing like the show and nothing like the blurb says it is. Nevertheless I still loved it and believe it is a beautifully written book.

Not what I was expecting...
I expected a lot from this book, and it didn't deliver. I have watched 2 episodes of the netflix series, and that drew me to wanting to read the book. I was actually so disappointed I felt it could have been so much more than what it was.

misleading
if you trust the brief story summary on the back of the book you might be disappointed.it’s not supernatural or scary - it’s more a drama as the setting is a hospice with terminally ill teenagers who meet up at midnight to tell each other horror stories and later make a pact to contact each other from ‘the other side’. sounds like a pretty cool plot, however the story itself doesn’t hold up to its promise, the main idea fades quickly & there are only 2 very small elements that (in my opinion) refer to the original (promised) plot.the horror stories are not scary for disturbing rather sad or have a punsh line (sort of) but definitely not scary. Reading goosebumps stories is more unsettling. It’s a quick read, very much for teenagers and published in the mid 90s - so it might be hard to connect to some elements specifically to one specific illness I don’t want to spoiler here.I think the story is a bit difficult to judge as this is an older book that isn’t a classic or fantasy story and like mentioned above the author missed the point at least with the supernatural/ horror element. What is left is a sad story about dying teenagers, unfortunately predictable & more of a drama than a mystery book. Just be prepared.

90s classic
Christopher pike was my favourite writer as a tween yes back in the 90s before the internet.. this is just start of a series of books involving the kids from the hospice, the book is great if you understand or were a child of the 90s, most now wouldn’t get it, the netsucks serious is just horrible nothing like the book, but that’s what folks want now, ridiculous jump scares and horror, the book is subtle and drama filled no horror, if that’s why your here do us a favour an jog on.I would suggest reading all his books especially fall into darkness, stage fright and monster.. and don’t watch the stupid films or tv shows they made
