Holds water well. It will buckle wet on wet but quickly flattened when dry. This paper is as good as Arches. I have not tried Saunders Waterford 140 # Rough yet but plan to. I am waiting for sheets of Cold Pressed High White.

Better than Arches, just the best paper out there. Receives washes and releases paint as needed. Great paper!

This particular block did not live up to the high quality standards for which Saunders is known. The block split and individual sheets came loose, which resulted in having to tape down each piece (not a big deal but defeats one of the advantages of a block). More concerning, some of the sheets had major incosistency in absorption. While doing my first wash I noticed the paper failed to absorb the water in a strip about 1.5" wide and 6" long almost in the middle of the piece. I went over it with even more water right away and it simply would not sink in. I started over with a new piece of paper - had to sketch my piece again. I was on a plein air course where time is of the essence. I wasted an hour on sketching onto a faulty piece of Saunders Waterford paper. Super disappointing. I had really high hopes for this paper and to be fair not all the pieces were faulty like this - only two so far in the block of 20. At this price point I expected more. If the return window was still open I would return it.

Watercolor blocks are expensive. Amazon could do a better job of packaging them for shipping! This one arrived in brown paper packaging. The photos are the corners of the last two watercolor blocks I ordered. The paper quality is fine but having the corners ruined is not.

I like the paper. My block came with some dented corners. Thankfully, it’s just the corners, which don’t affect the art so much since they get hidden by a frame or cut off.
