Fascinating and insightful read
As an introvert I'm used to watching and listening more than actively participating in social situations so really enjoyed finding out more about the non-verbal clues people are unconsciously giving off and will enjoy putting these to the test in my future interactions. The photographs in the book provide fantastic examples of the types of body language being discussed and I really found it fascinating seeing how many common, everyday phrases relate to our body language. The section on online meetings gave some great advice on how to present yourself well and pick up on cues others are giving off, even when you can't see all the usual body language clues available in face-to-face interactions. All in all, a fabulous book on body language showing how you can use it to your benefit and to those around you, and who would've thought there was a thing called the Glasgow Wiggle! Highly recommended.

A great resource for learning about nonverbal communication!
This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn more about reading body language and nonverbal communication! Being able to read body language is so useful, whether it is for work purposes or communication in general. I love the chapters where the author breaks down how to read clues displayed by the different body parts (e.g. legs & feet, shouldering the torso, eyes, etc). There are lots of detailed information about how to read someone's body language, and a vast amount of examples, accompanied with photos to illustrate this. The author also talks about the psychology behind this, which gives the reader a much deeper understanding. Highly recommended!

An excellent reference guide for non-verbal communication
This book is well written and contains loads of actual photo images of body posture and positioning. The author has a different slant on body language and ties this in with how the brain works. The book is in two parts with the first part exploring the basis of body language and the second part looking at different scenarios and how to use it. The chapter on attraction and seduction will certainly appeal to those seeking courtship and socializing. If you are interested in Body Language this is book is worth exploring and is highly recommended.

Really fascinating read for anyone in sales or customer facing professionals
As a sales professional, the book is an easy read and provides an in depth look at how to read and understand body language. A real eye opener if this is your first time on the subject. It is in two sections, the first explains the science behind body language and how to read it. The second section shows you how to use it in a number of situations. I found the numerous pictures helpful to demonstrate the concepts. Also the accompanying audio track was added bonus.

A very interesting and useful book
I am a linguist but have always been aware that “words don’t speak it all”. This book is a splendid guide to this other – very rich - side of our communication. Derek Borthwick takes the reader on a very interesting and useful journey, well-measured in terms of evidence-based approach, explaining the “why”, and practicality – explaining the “how”. The book sets off from a brief theoretical background, then gives a fascinating account of – literally – “feet to head” description of the complex system of body postures and gestures that sometimes speak louder than words. (Note: if – as I have - you listen to the audio version, be sure to have the pdf file enclosed with the recording at hand to refer to the set of figures included in the text). This is followed by the part of “body language for influence”. However, it is not manipulation that the author has in mind! What I really liked about Derek Borthwick’s approach is liking people: coming from the place of curiosity and willingness to get to know the other person better, get along better, and consequently steer away from confrontation arising from sheer misunderstanding when missing the vital clues. The final part puts the first two parts into action, giving the reader advice on both how to read body language and non-verbal communication of others, as well as how to successfully present oneself in this respect. The individual chapters in this part address specifically a range of occupations (sales, healthcare, presenting, public speaking), as well as various professional and social settings and general rules of better awareness of how we come across to others (i.e. how we dress depending on the context of the interaction, the position we assume vis-à-vis our interlocutor, even how to set up your office to be a more successful manager). Personally, I found the chapter on online meetings particularly informative and up-to-date. So here you have a valuable read that will make your eye for non-verbal communication much sharper, reveal to you this fascinating dimension of human interaction - even if you are just an observer, and will ensure you are better prepared to engage with other people in various professional and social settings. It’s highly worth it. Remember, as they say: you never have a second chance to make the first impression! This book can also help you do it right the first time - each time.

Great Information and Love the Bonus Audio!
This book has already been a huge help! I also have read How To Talk to Anybody and Inside the Mind of Sales by this author as well and I really like how all three of these books reference each other and integrate together to provide a very well rounded education in communication and human relations. Derek not only provides techniques for understanding communication and body language, but he also discusses the science behind the how and why people communicate the way they do. The information contained in this book is helpful not only in a business environment, but also in personal/home environments as well and can help with all aspects of life . The accompanying bonus audio is also extremely helpful as well. I listen to it just before bedtime and it helps to get me relaxed. I’d highly recommend this book!
