A 'Must have' book, but read carefully and thoroughly before building any projects.
This is the 'must have' book for anyone wanting to make their own antenna or understand how antennas work. Also, you can't beat the Amazon price and shipping! I've been using my old 1974 antenna book and decided to upgrade. Besides, the ARRL is pretty much the only game in town. My disappointmens lie in the presentations, most of which are compiled from years of projects in previous ARRL Handbooks. The math formulas do not offer sample presentations, so be careful before committing to a construction project until you prove the formula works. The construction projects mostly show sketches as opposed to photos of finished projects. The very popular G5RV dipole antanna latest updated design is not included. A 4:1 high power balun is added at the ladderline feed point where the coax cable connects. I'm making it right now. If you happen to have half a dozen old ARRL Radio Amateur Handbooks laying around you probably have all you need. One disappointment is they continued to publish the antenna tuner that is the most complicated to build ever published, (designed in their own lab) as opposed to the very popular, widely used Transmatch which is simple to construct and works and is featured in other ARRL publications. You can purchase all the parts from MFJ. I'd suggest building a prototype on a board to make sure it all works, then package it. It is not too critical in layout. They also show using electrical tape to secure the transmission line to the dipole antenna feed point! As soon as the sun hits it, it will come loose and allow the wires to hang directly from the antenna, which will at some point break from wind movement. This method was used in an earlier publication, and I asked myself what they had in their minds. My opinions come from 60 years of ham, commercial broadcast and mobile 2-way radio design experience. I'm only referring mostly to the HF antennas. I don't operate the VHF/UHF ham bands, but the designs appear to be the same as ages old designs. NOTE: If you want to operate or understand UHF and microwaves I recommend the ARRL UHF/MICROWAVE EXPERIMENTER'S MANUAL. It's the best, and the formulas are well presented. Mike K6VGQ

A "must-have" for radio amateurs
As with most editions of the ARRL antenna book, much of the valuable (and proven) reference material doesn't change. This edition was updated a fair amount, had some new articles, and included the CD reference, with supplemental notes. This ability to character-search on a topic, as well as the bundled demo version of EZNEC antenna modeling software, makes it a really good bargain. If you don't have this one on your shelf, you need to, simple as that. I suspect it will be referred back to for many years to come.

ARRL Antenna Book, 22nd ed.
This 22nd edition is huge and includes the entire volume, plus, plus, plus on a CD. This replaces my 13th edition and contains a tremendous amount of new theory and facts/tips. Stuff that may be available on the internet, IF you have the time to search for it. Interestingly, I will still refer to some sections of my 13th edition that are not carried over to the later edition. Also, at the time I ordered this book, I had just finished a 3-element 15m beam that is a fantastic performer...but, based on the 13th edition...oh, well.

Good value
Low cost introduction, and more, to antennas and radio propagation. One working through the CD's content will bring one considerable knowledge about the wonderful field of antennas and their connection to radio propagation. Eventually, a student of antennas will wish to study Antennas by my mentor, John D. Kraus, and to consider extending the EZNEC that is on the CD.Unlike some ARRL publications, Antenna Book seems to be revised with each edition. A "must have" publication.

Full of antennas and information
Anything the ARRL puts out is worth buying. Their consideration to both the new and experienced Ham as well as thoughtful layout and excellent published books are a highlight of any Amateur Radio Hobbyists book shelf. This book is so full of information I'd say it's worth a lifetime. I am not electronics' trained, much of the work is over my head - that said, I am happy to own it because there is plenty of useful information for me to learn and use as a reference. I am satisfied I decided to purchase the work.

I am new to ham radio. I have watched ...
I am new to ham radio. I have watched several YouTube videos on home brew antennas and was curious where these people got their technical knowledge. I saw this book on Amazon and based on the feedback I decided to buy it. All I can say is WOW, what a book, packed with technical information regarding every antenna you could possibly imagine. This book goes way beyond what you might find on the internet, a treasure trove of information. Well worth the money !!!
