Large Dead Zones: You get what you pay for

I got this controller for an arduino project, where it interfaces directly with an arduino Uno through a PS2 Controller Shield. Because of this I've had the unique experience of seeing numerical values for just how HUGE the dead zones are on the joysticks. In the program the number 0 is supposed to represent the joystick at rest (untouched) whereas 100 represents the maximum value in any given direction.I borrowed an authentic controller from a classmate of mine to initially test out and it was extremely responsive, even to the point of having to code a dead zone so that anything below 10 doesn't register. This is for controlling a left and right thruster for an ROV at variable speeds based on the position of the joysticks. Now, once I had to return the authentic controller I got this one to continue my testing, since the authentic one (apparently for good reason) cost $50. Without going into heavy detail, I can read the joystick's live output in real time through a Serial monitor. As a result I've found with this controller's joysticks that it almost never registers any value below 30. As well, there appears to be a large outer dead zone as well as the value reaches maximum output (100) with plenty of room left to spare. This has the effect of forcing more numbers into a smaller space than they were meant to represent. From a numerical perspective it makes it seem as though the numbers are jumping from, lets say 40-70 with the smallest of movements.I'm giving this three stars because it does work, and that I am admittedly trying to use this for something the manufacturer never intended. I have no PS2 to test this on, but its my belief that this issue would show on most video games, but without the means to test it I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Once I get the genuine article I'll do a side-by-side comparison and if I've been unfair to this product I'll edit/delete my postTLDR: This may or may not work well enough for games, but don't buy this for anything other than the intended use of plugging it into a PS2

Actually very nice controller. I was surprise with it actually work as I bought cheap controllers before that when using analogs will stop working off and on. This controller everything seem to work fine.I will say the controller does feel really cheap, but I just shock to find a cheap controller that actually functions right. With Dualshock 2 being costly new it nice to find lot cheaper controller I can get new for I can continue to play SOCOM Online on PS2.

Let's get ready to rumble...

This is a sturdy controller. Buttons respond pretty well, and aren't too sensitive, either. Until a week or so ago, my only complaint would have been that the blue light on the center got a little annoying in my peripheral vision, especially at night.Until the vibrating started and didn't stop. The controller is still playable, if you don't mind your hands buzzing literally all the time, or hearing it buzz next to you when you set it down on the couch... or watching it buzz itself off the coffee table when you put it down there... or hearing the ambient buzz incessantly in the back of your head...I only haven't returned this because I'm so tired of returning and re-ordering controllers. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy an original one from Sony.Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

Not bad. Better than most of the other off-brand controllers

Not bad. Better than most of the other off-brand controllers, and a lot cheaper than the $50 Sony-brand controller. My only complaint is that I need to press a bit harder on R1 to get it to work, but that's hardly a reason to dock more than 1 star.

Very good controller. I bought it to play PS1 games and a good perk I wasn't expecting is that it allows you to use the joystick even if the game itself does not allow that capability (e.g. FF VII) My only complaint would be that the cord is too short.

I was pretty happy I could find a replacement controller for my good ol PS2. However, this is pretty cheaply made. The biggest problem is that every 30 seconds or so, my game will pause, telling me to "Insert Dualshock Controller blah blah" when this is plugged in. Not sure what the deal is, other than that it works fine. Its just a pain in the ass when you have to stop when you are just trying to play the game. And for games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater, it just messes you up and makes you want to breaking the damn thing (probably wouldn't be that hard). Definitely would NOT buy again, although thanks for making a product for an old system

Better than expected!

My past experience with off-brand controllers is a mixed bag, really. Some were good, some went right in the trash. This works absolutely wonderfully! Highly recommended, just... The cord is really short. What made them think a 2-1/2 foot cord was a good idea, I wonder?

Works

Certainly not the quality of an OEM Sony PS2 controller. The wire is too short. The button feel is ok but not great. But it works and it's cheap so it's fair. A dusty old PS2 just wasn't worth the cost of an OEM controller for me.
