Pretty Great
I’ve now completed both volumes of Itachis story. Together and taken alone, the novels are great. I consider Itachis story to be approaching Miltonesque status - think Paradise Lost. There is more good than bad in the story. Particularly, I loved the insights you get into Itachi and Izumis relationship and the extent of Itachis sharingan seems more fully displayed in the novels. Such a great story in terms of his determination, his learning process - especially regarding true love w/ regards to his parents, and his dedication to his dream in spite of everything that happened to him/was going on.However, the story has some holes. I understand the need to create a problem or suspense as a writer. But seriously, why did Third, Hirozen, not take action to calm the coup. What happened to itachi is a tragedy. He was robbed of a happy life because of the hatred and dereliction of duty on the part of others but no matter what, he moved the ball forward and continued to focus on creating peace. Hirozen is a failed Hokage, it took impending death for Fugako to realize his role as a father, the world is full of manipulation of thoughts and emotions. People a limited, fragile, fallible creatures and often can’t decent between good and evil. What is reality? All of this is parsed out in this wonderful novel.

so deep and heartbreaking
We know something like this is shown in naruto shippuden as fillers. These two books, daylight and midnight. It is totally different when you read these books. There is difference in very important details and these books show us inside of Itachi's heart. I did not fully understand, when I was watching naruto shippuden series, what was going inside itachi and here is what I wanted. These books show us also clan's state and position, also shows us hiruzen's real motives (we already know danzo) and I saw how hopeless the situation was to resort to that option we all know about uchiha clan. And how difficult it was for itachi to make this decision. And about that night there is big difference too and it is more heartbreaking. For those who love itachi's character and want to see deeper inside him, these two books are perfect.

I will be waiting for your reply, Sasuke
I now fully sympathize with Itachi and all his suffering. Whats new is I hate Hiruzen even more than Danzo now. Danzo openly admits all his darkness but Hiruzen is truly a wolf under the mask of the sheep.

I'm in love with Uchiha Itachi
After I finished the first book, I knew I'd want to get the second one. So I made sure I bought it before I finished book one and I'm so glad I decided to. After finishing Naruto Shippuden I felt so lost and empty, and this helped fill the void just a little bit. It's better than the anime because you get to hear Itachi's thought process on everything, and it explains some elements of the story even deeper. I have mad respect for Itachi and his resolve. I loved this book, wish I could just re-read it with new eyes again! Lol

Very intimate and very dark.
This book will give you a full understanding of what is the darkest story line in naruto. It will also expose what being a konoha ninja truly is and what the cost of peace is for the village. I must warn you, even if you have read the manga and know the details, you have never seen them expressed like this. When reading the climax I had to stop and few moments and hold back tears because it's written so vividly. The darkness that is expressed in this book will hurt your heart, but it's necessary if you want the full understanding of itatchi and the leaf.
