An Enlightening and Spiritual Read
A wonderful melodic book where you feel in touch with yourself, nature and your higher power. I bought it because it was on of Oprah's favorite all time books and it did not disappoint. For all you type A'ers though, this might be painful.

Slightly academic, but great depth
An excellent, in-depth look at the principles of Morita psychology. It's a tad academic, with lots of footnotes ( hence 4 stars not 5) - - but if I were writing a psych paper etc this facet would be appreciated. Gives a great exploration of the Zen roots and the 'today's world ' applications of Morita psych. Slaked my thirst for knowledge of this area.

DELIGHTFUL ENLIGHTENMENT
Beautiful.A book that itself flows like a river. It's forceful, fluid, engaging. Now and then, it speeds up hits a rock and a couple of drops of water hits your face."Just as music streams into a symphony, our attention flows into our life song. Conversely, just as a wayward sour note ruins a melody, misappropriation of attention obstructs our focus on what is most immediate and, accordingly, most vital. Concerts are not composed from an isochronous lone verse, and our lives are not fulfilled by facsimile events. Limitless subjects and eclectic attention dramatically lyricize our lives."Ogawa, Dr. Brian (2007-04-17). A River to Live By: THE 12 LIFE PRINCIPLES OF MORITA THERAPY (Kindle Locations 350-353). Xlibris. Kindle Edition. This is a book that will delight and enlighten. I got this warm feeling in my tummy when reading certain passages as they hit with their directness and 'truth'.Highly recommended!Too bad - I can't find the Kindle version any longer though?

A useful therapeutic approach.
Interesting application of Asian thought with a strong Zen component to enhance wellness in our day to day living. A useful approach to apply to western psychotherapy. I have found meditation practice useful for my psychiatric patents and there are alternatives approaches that can in some cases be more beneficial than psychotropic medications.Sanford Pomerantz, M.D, psychiatrist

Clear description of Morita principles
Ogawa does a good job of describing the key principles of Morita therapy. Each principle is clearly described and illustrated. Ogawa gives a particularly good account of Morita's use of river metaphors.
