I am not a cookbook aficionado. I usually improvise with what I have at hand. I read "Setting the table" by Danny Meyer and was so impressed that I went further and got this one.So far I have done one dish following the book, and found to my surprise and joy that it was a pleasure to follow the recipe; everything was explained just right, in warm, personal terms. I felt as if I was following a friend's recipe. The dish came out great.Recommend warmly.

After a yummy lunch at eh Union Square Cafe, I decided that I wanted to make the items that were so delicious at lunch. Glad I found the cookbook so easily on line. The recipes are great, unusual and not terribly difficult to make. Very creative and lots of great ideas. Love it.

Until we get "smell-o-vision", big, beautiful, colorful photos are the next best thing to tasting what a recipe's finished product will be like. After all, as the saying goes, "we eat first with our eyes". That is why I'm rather disappointed with the latest cookbook I purchased. To be fair, the book was published in 1994, so, if it were more current, there would likely be a plethora of glossies showing the food to best advantage. Still, The Union Square Cafe cookbook had wonderful reviews and I admit I was expecting more than a meager handful (perhaps 10?) of black-and-white photos of its 160 recipes. Perhaps later editions solved this issue?

This book is great for truing to be a union sq cafe cook, it ranges from simple to complicated, and some great tricks.

I have been eating at Union Square every time I go to New York. I love their food and this book didn't disappoint.All of my favorites are included and are easy to understand for the home cook.
