The Time of the Hunter's Moon
Victoria Holt is an excellent storyteller. It is well researched and the mystery is cleverly unfolded. The heroine is resourceful and has a sense of humour. Her love interest is by no means a paragon but again not without humour in his pursuit of her. I particularly like the other female characters as well - her lovely, warm hearted aunt and the strict but fair principal of the girl's school she works for. Holt is my not so guilty pleasure. At her best, she can give that other superb storyteller, Mary Stewart, a run for her money.

Not bad but not the best thing I've ever read.
It was far from a bad read, but it didn't feel Victorian or even Edwardian, but the language and the interactions between the characters felt very....1950's. It was a good story, with several suspenseful twists but I was expecting something much darker and much more romantic. Its a good sit-by-the-pool or a rainy day book of entertainment.

Disappointing!
I am a Victoria Holt fan. I have loved all her books until this one. I found it rather disjointed in parts and Cordelia Grant very irritating at times. The ending should have been so much better. It seemed rushed and bitty to me. Tying up loose ends that should have been woven into the storyline not by the convenience of Elsa writing a book ! Not wanting to spoil things for those who haven’t read it yet. But a big disappointment compared to her other books such as The Mistress of Mellyn The King of the Castle, The Bride Of Pendorric , Shivering Sands etc etc. Those I couldn’t put down this I confess I had to force myself to finish sadly.
