YOU HAVE TO GET THIS!
If you have a flea infestation, you NEED to get this. We tried nearly EVERYTHING for our flea problem and this is the only thing that worked. Our German Shepherd brought fleas into our home during the late summer. I didn't even realize the poor thing had fleas until I was scratching her one day and noticed a bite on her leg. I rolled her over to inspect her body and saw two fleas on her stomach. I let my husband know and after discussing it, we decided to try and treat the house with what we had. After all, it wasn't THAT bad. I had only found maybe ten on her, so we don't need to do much to get rid of them, right? WRONG!We used 91% rubbing alcohol in a bottle with a few drops of dish soap and sprayed down the entire house—every crack and crevice. We vacuumed thoroughly and I combed out our dog with a flea comb everyday. We used Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, and Cedarwood oil on her. Honestly, all of those things were STUPID ideas because they DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. In fact, it seemed like it made the problem worse! So, once the "natural" remedies failed, we picked up a flea carpet powder and bed bug spray. The bed bug spray was recommended for flea problems by the lady who worked at our local hardware store. We sprayed down the entire house and endured this HORRIBLE bed bug spray that made our eyes water, made us sneeze like crazy, and generally made us feel like we had insane allergies DESPITE properly ventilating and wearing masks. So, after all of that nonsense, we waited. The next day? Fleas. Everywhere. THANKS FOR NOTHING, HARDWARE STORE LADY!After that didn't work, we vowed to do thorough research on what we needed to get rid of these pesky little suckers. Not even a week later, we finally decided on Virbac. By then, the flea infestation had gotten SO much worse. I never realized just how fast these things reproduce and wreak havoc on your home, your pet, and your family. It was HORRIBLE, but we were absolutely DETERMINED to get rid of them.I anxiously waited for the Virbac to arrive in the mail. While waiting, my husband and I created a game plan. We would first treat the yard with Nematodes—yes, NEMATODES. We used 30 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes Hb+Sc+Sf - Kills Over 200 Different Species of Soil Dwelling and Wood Boring Insects.. Next, we would go to the vet and get a six-month supply for flea prevention for our dog. After that, I gave her an EXTREMELY THOROUGH bath. I spent at least 45 minutes in the bathroom, scrubbing every single inch of her with my fingernails. I used Dawn Dish Soap and water—that's it. I scrubbed and scrubbed, from her neck to her tail. I put a "necklace" of dish soap around her neck to prevent any fleas from trying to escape to her dry head. I then combed out her head with the flea comb afterward. The bath was VERY tedious and I was meticulous about getting every single one of those stupid fleas. When she was finished, I dried her off and went through every inch of her coat with a flea comb.Once I was sure she was flea free, we vacuumed the house from top to bottom. After our dog dried off, we put her outside while my husband sprayed the house with Virbac. During that time, I took my children to the movies so they weren't subjected to the chemicals in the spray. Once he finished spraying the house, he waited an hour, and vacuumed again. The next day, there were NO FLEAS. A week later, I found a few in the house, but they weren't jumping. They were lethargic, just crawling along the carpet. The bottle does say that you may see adult fleas for up to two weeks after spraying, but to rest assured that it will NOT turn into an infestation. They were right. We just kept vacuuming to make sure and suck up any of the newly hatched fleas. After that, I never saw a flea again. Not in my carpet (even after crawling around on my hands and knees and LOOKING for these suckers—I was paranoid! I HATE FLEAS!). Not on our dog. Not in the yard. Nowhere. I am SO thankful for this product and now we know, if we see a flea, we're getting Virbac.Quick Note: After reading through some of these reviews, I have to stress this: YOU HAVE TO TREAT EVERYTHING! You can't just spray your house with Virbac and expect the fleas to magically disappear. They're still going to be on your pet and they're still going to be in your yard. These little suckers are resilient and their eggs are damn near impenetrable. Virbac works great in the home because it has an IGR and prevents reproduction. However, you still have to treat your pet(s) and your yard! Virbac will only treat your home. You need something for the yard, whether it's nematodes, a flea spray, or a professional exterminator, and you need a flea prevention medication for your pet.

Best thing I've found
Bought this for my house and while expensive, I will definitely buy again. I have a dog and a few outside stray cats, and we live in the middle of nowhere. So fleas are EVERYWHERE. My dog is the only one that comes inside, but after playing outside he brings all the fleas back in with him. Between this and Capstar, we have been able to keep them at a minimum. It hasn't had any leaking problems like others I have used and it is very effective. The smell isn't all that great, I usually have to step outside after I've sprayed the house down. But it does its job well and is well worth the price.

This is a potent product that works. Use precautions in the application. Follow all directions.
The product has been self applied to our home to treat a flea infestation. It was applied a week ago and we are seeing a distinct decrease in the hatching of new fleas. For the application, I purchased:1. A commercial grade respirator made for filtering out the fumes (P100 protection).2. Fog proof goggles to completely cover my eyes.3. A protective suit to completely cover my body (hood and boot covers).4. Nitrile gloves.I would not recommend using this product without these precautions.

Veterinarian / Mom approved
I've been recommending this stuff to my clients for the last 15 years. Used it myself recently for the first time. Worked great! Just carefully follow the directions on the can. They are on the side of the can and are clear and easy to follow. There is a drying time noted and I would ventilate the room if possible (open a window). One can treats 2000 square feet. When it's not possible to vacate the house, I will treat a room, close the door, and place a towel rolled to the width of the door to help contain the freshly sprayed knockout to the room.Do not use on your pets! MAKE SURE to use an appropriate flea/tick control agent on your pet. If your pet is out in a yard regularly, treat the yard with an appropriate yard spray as well. If you would rather go organic for the yard, beneficial nematodes are wonderful as another reviewer mentioned. Follow the directions carefully so the nematodes are alive and hungry when they are applied.Update: 7/29/2018. Since I originally wrote this review, several new flea and tick products have become available. We have been seeing some resistance to the original topical veterinary products and are thankful to add some new weapons to the war of fleas. FYI- I DO NOT recommend flea collars for homes with small children or babies. Like dogs, little humans are not discriminating about what they put in their mouths. Please talk to your veterinarian to determine what product is best for you and your pet's lifestyle.Fleas are tough to get rid of. You have to treat the indoor environment, outdoor environment, and the pet at the same time. Fleas, like butterflies, make a cocoon before emerging as a disease spreading, allergy creating, anemia causing pest. The sprays one weakness is that it can't penetrate the cocoon. Pupated fleas can take up to seven months to hatch. You need to have flea control on your pet(s) to kill these new fleas as they emerge.Vacuuming frequently will encourage hatching. The vibration causes hatching. These hatching fleas do not mean that this product has failed. These new fleas are not able to reproduce, that's the nylar in the spray. It effects the development of the exoskeleton of the flea. It's too soft to get out of it's egg. TMI?These new fleas are "self limiting" and last around 30 days. This is why the pet topical flea control is an essential part of the treatment for flea infestation. After you vacuum when using knockout, make sure you throw away the bag or wash the bag-less canister. I went as far as spraying mine with a little knockout after washing it with hot soapy water.Flea Statistics to encourage you to kill all the fleas:For every one flea you see, statistically there are 100 more in the environment! The adult stage is found primarily on the pet. Only 5% of the fleas in your environment are in the adult stage. 10% are in the pupated stage, 35% larvae, and 50% in the egg stage. One flea can lay up to 2,000 eggs in a life time.
