Driftwood: Stories from the Margarita Road

I live in Mexico. I am an ex-Pat. I love Mexico. I loved this book and never wanted it to end. I was there with them all at the very start in the sleepy fishing village and at the very end as progress (so some say) took over. On the surface a fun read but it left me with a lot to think about especially in the thoughtful final chapters. A sad ending but the sun is still shining, the ocean turquoise blue and the Margarita Road is never ending.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me back to the first time I went to Playa del Carmen, just before the massive influx of tourists. There were already some hotels and lots of expats, but it still had a dusty Mexican feel. I never got to visit Tony's real hotel, the Luna Blue, but knew about it from the community. His tales are based on some characters he encountered, but with a fictionalized setting of Poppa's bar, right on the beach. Reading it, I stopped at the end of each chapter, to savour the characters and adventures, before moving on. Although it is a collection of stories, there is enough of a plot line to come to a satisfying conclusion.

Loved this book. Read it in one day. Now I need more! We live in Puerto Morelos, and definitely can relate to the stories and local charactors. Can't wait for the next book!

Loved this book ! If you have ever dreamed of packing it in and moving somewhere warm this is the book for you ! I couldn’t put it down and was sad when the story was over . We need another book about Poppa !

I am still reading but what I have I am loving his book. It really does take you to paradise and my beloved Mexico .
