Independently Published Eloquence: The Hidden Secret of Words that Change the World

NOT written by Robert Greene
I'll admit it: I bought this book because I thought it had been written by Robert Greene. He has written several excellent books that share the same jacket design. The author of this work copied that motif, and clearly it worked for him. I think that is deceptive, however, and it put me in a negative frame of mind before I started reading. The author has the start of a good book here but nowhere near enough to publish it as-is. The first 20 pages are (anonymous) reviews of his other books. The last half of the book consists of blank worksheets for writing a speech. Thus, less than half of the book is actually his writing. Given that the book is self-published and therefore not professionally typeset, there are actually fewer words than you would normally find. This idea might have worked as a blog page but not as a book that people actually pay for, and certainly not $20. I returned mine and got a refund.

Don't waste your money.
This book is mostly garbage. Table of content is 18 pages long (7% of the book). Another 17 pages (6% of the book) are wasted on supposed praise for the author. 60 pages (23% of the book) are wasted on a near useless workbook. On each page of this "workbook" are 2 questions that supposedly help you tweak your own content. For instance p. 165 reads "What is my 'Before' Message?" and "What does it sound like after applying the Power of 'We'?" the rest is white space. This format is used throughout this portion of the book. 29 pages (11%) are spent on a Speech writing checklist. Only 102 pages (39%) are what I would call "content". This content starts off good, but early on it seems that the author ceased to put in effort. He starts off by coving the "Rhyme as Reason Effect" and the scientific research behind it. But the remainder of the content is simply the author deconstructing 2 speeches by listing the techniques that the speaker used in each passage; not very informative.

Deliberate execution of words meant to insult ones intelligence
This is simply a egotistical failure; that propogates passive aggressiveness and highly functional narcissistic behavior, under the auspices of social acceptance.

Not worth the time.
I started to read this and it was exceedingly painful to read. I dont recommend this book at all.

Great Marketing - book cover design is similar to Robert Green's books.
The good news is you will not need reading glasses for this bundle of non-sensical pages. There is a sucker born every minute and apparently I was born when I purchased this book. The first 17 pages are the TOC. The next 10 or so pages consists of "praise for Peter's book." Thank goodness it was triple spaced and font size of 26. Plus, who doesn't love reading about praise that has not listed the person who praised the content. Oh - the utter despair of seeing this piece of paper next to a Norm Chomsky book. Oh the perils of self-publishing. Just get an NLP book or better yet just read a Doctor Suesse book. You will learn more about "Eloquence" from The Cat in the Hat than this unfortunate clap trap.
