Survived the heatwave thanks to this bad boy
This portable AC worked relentlessly during the heatwave to keep my south facing 9.3 m2 office cooled down. When it was 39 C outside, my office was at 27 C. I don’t think a portable AC could do any better than that.Cons: remote doesn’t show the temperature set. Fan can only blow air upwards, no straight tornares you. It only has an exhaust tube, not intake one, so it creates a lot of negative pressure.Pros: nice finish. Didn’t die when it was 39 C. It’s portable, so moved it to the bedroom when it was night time.A split AC would be much better. But if you can’t have that, this portable one is a great stopgap.

It's okay
For the price it doesn't get the room super cold. I haven't check how much it is to get fitted air conditioning. But if it is 3x as much as this then this product is not worth the £400

Effective & Stylish 9000 BTU Air Conditioner.
I have to say I am impressed with this IG9919 air conditioner for a number of reasons. Not only does it look relatively stylish for a Portable Air Conditioner, it cools our 3.5 x 4m, 14 sqm bedroom well, especially when you consider it's first floor location (heat gain from rooms below), South facing orientation and large window. This unit also functions as a fan (very quiet), dehumidifier (not tried as we have one) and heater (also not tried or required), the heating function being quite rare in this price bracket and for a 9000 BTU model. It also cools with what I regard to be relatively low noise levels for a PAC - zero vibrations, rattles or odd noises, despite wooden floors, just the hum of the compressor and the fan. From my past experience, this is generally not the case for many PAC models, regardless of price plus all PAC models will be noisy due to how they operate, although this model is not as loud as I expected based on other reviews. I had expected we would need to purchase a rubber appliance mat but this hasn't been the case. The fan has three speeds unlike the two speeds of many competing 9000 BTU models, which was a must for us as it gives additional flexibility, plus it also has an Auto fan setting like the climate system in your car, which will vary the fan speed automatically as required. Many models only have 2 fan speeds and without the auto function too. A particularly useful feature is it will switch off the compressor when it reaches the set temperature but it will continue to run the very quiet fan, circulating residual cold air until the compressor is required again. Many models will switch off both the compressor and the fan!Fan output is decent but based on the Igenix specification, it's slightly down on some other 9000 BTU models but not by much, which may account for what I find to be relatively low noise levels. More fan output would = more noise! Interestingly, the 12000 BTU version of this model has the exact same air flow rate: 300 cubic meters per hour, which is significantly lower than many other 12000 BTU models as they are generally north of 450 cubic meters hour.Within 5 minutes or so of switching on, the air exiting the top mounted vent is very cold (10c registered using 2 x digital meat probes) and this model has an oscillating feature too, which slowly and silently moves the vents back and forth to diffuse the air from above. This can also be used to position the vents at a certain angle by switching the function on and then off again when the vents reach your chosen angle - they will automatically close to seal the vent from dust when you switch it off.Like all PAC, the air in the immediate vicinity is quickly cooled within minutes but it can take hours for other areas of the room, such as the corners and the opposite end, to feel that temperature change. If you are wanting to be blasted in the face then I would recommend a model with a front mounted vent but you might find this cools the furniture (cool air falls) rather than the warm air sitting above and around you. I can also recommend an oscillating fan if you do purchase a PAC as this will help move the cold air around the room. If you are buying a PAC for bedroom use and would like the option to run it overnight, rather than just a couple of hours before bedtime, then I would recommend one of the top venting models such as this, as the extremely cold air won't be directed at you whilst you sleep, which will be the case with front venting models.Based on my research, you need to size the PAC BTU to your room dimensions and orientation (South or West facing etc). Going for too high a BTU, whilst tempting, will not only cost you more in purchase & running costs but it will also prove to be less efficient in how it operates - rapidly cooling the room (good), then constantly switching off and on to maintain the temperature (bad), which means it won't also be dehumidifying your room (bad). UK summers tend to be humid, rather than dry, so the ability to dehumidify whilst cooling is very important, which of course won't happen if the compressor is constantly switching off, resulting in a cold but humid room. This model is also self-evaporative, so it uses much of the moisture drawn from the air in the cooling process, rather than constantly filling it's internal storage tank, although you will still have to drain this from time to time, particularly during constant use in very humid weather. Some of the better online BTU calculators not only take into account the room dimensions but also the size of the window/s, room orientation, electrical equipment and the number of occupants. Around 1000 BTU seems to be added for South facing rooms and 600 BTU per person, on top of the basic BTU requirements for a given space.A correctly sized model for your room will run for much longer periods without any cycling on/off, which means you also benefit from lower running costs, much better dehumidification and less wear on the compressor. It's tempting to go big for rapid cooling but it will cost much more to run, not only due to the increased output but also due to the constant compressor cycling on and off. You'll find the highest energy consumption is when the compressor kicks in and starts to cool, which is why you want to avoid the constant cycling. The timer can either be set to switch the unit on or off plus it has a sleep mode, which drops the fan speed to low, dims the LED controls (but not quite enough) and will gradually start to increase the temperature after an hour, before switching off after 6 hours or so.One feature not listed anywhere is the power memory function, which means you can switch the device on/off with a smart plug/Alexa and it will resume the last setting when powered on. Handy if the room is set up for cooling whilst you're out (door closed and curtains drawn if it gets the sun) as you can then activate the AC from wherever you like.Being A rated, it's not horrific to run and has COP/EER ratings of 2.9, which are better than the 2.6 of many other 9000 BTU models. You'll need an A+ model (COP/EER 3.1) to improve on this but the gains will be negligible, especially considering the often significant additional expenditure to acquire one of these models, which might never actually be recovered, plus additional running costs if it's a higher BTU than needed. Single hose PAC models are inherently inefficient but I don't find this model too bad to run at around 24p an hour after the first 20 minutes or so, which is when the AC is working hardest from a warm start. In the USA, twin hose models achieving COP/EER ratings of over 9.0 are now available but these aren't available in the UK as yet.The hose is thick, good quality and easily attached to the nozzle plus the connector used to attach it to the back of the unit. You'll find an arrow at 12 o'clock on the back of the device hot air outlet and a locked/unlocked padlock symbol on the hose connector. Line up the arrow & unlocked padlock, twist until the arrow is aligned with the locked symbol and that's it. We have very heavy curtains sitting on the hose, which hasn't once become disconnected from the back of the PAC. We have also insulated the hot air exhaust hose with a cover to significantly reduce the heat transfer back into the room and improve cooling efficiency; these are easily found online from the likes of Amazon and inexpensive.Like many UK homes, we have top hinged, outward opening windows, so we quickly purchased one of the velcro based kits to seal the window space around the hose. No point paying to remove hot air from your room, only for the PAC to draw it back in again from the vicinity of the hose exit. This is one of the major drawbacks of the single house system unlike the dual hose models, which aren't available here as yet, but it's a minor point with our still relatively short and unpredictable summer weather, which fortunately means infrequent use of AC. When storing this away for winter, I would recommend cleaning the filters, draining the device from the condenser drain at the bottom (stick a baking tray underneath the drain) and then running it on FAN only mode for several hours or more to help dry out the condenser in order to avoid those funky AC smells when you wheel it out again next summer. The negatives for me, and this is being really picky as they are so few, are the lack of a display on the remote (temperature, fan speed etc) and remote button illumination, so you can't quickly make adjustments during the night without switching on a lamp or climbing out of bed to use the controls on the unit. Overall, the IG9919 is inexpensive, well made, comprehensively equipped, relatively compact at 45cm wide, effective and pretty stylish (for a PAC) - wheel it out for the odd random week or two of hot & humid and then stick it in a cupboard when not needed.Apologies for the length of review but home AC is still quite a new thing here in the UK, so I thought a little more detail might help others with what will probably be the first purchase of a portable air conditioner.Recommended!

Very compact machine and easy to move
Was surprised that the extract hose is not the normal 4” (100mm) diameter. It’s 5” (130mm) which didn’t fit my tumble dryer outlet. Also the window spacer only works on sliding windows or sash windows. As we have normal opening sash windows we could not vent this way effectively. We’ve had to extract through the letter box at our front door
