Maintenance Planning, Coordination, & Scheduling (Volume 1)

I bought this book after browsing a number of maintenance books on Amazon. I know nothing about the topic, but I need to develop a maintenance organization for a small college campus. This book was reasonably priced (some of the "maintenance handbooks" cost twice as much), and it appeared to cover every aspect of the maintenance organization and processes. The book has good examples (e.g. weekly planning schedule), great advice (recommended percentages and ratios of things), and ample explanation as to "why" so-and-so is a good thing to do. It is written at about a Grade 11 reading level, which makes it a little challenging for someone who is struggling to understand the concepts. The writing style is also very dry, so the reader might want to have a cup of strong coffee or tea on hand. Because it is virtually a text book, this book needs to be studied. I had to read it through twice before I could see "the big picture" and how the pieces fit together. Should the authors choose to revise the book, I recommend adding a chapter: How to scale it to different sized organizations. They assume we're talking about a large factory with about 20 technicians. Adapting it to my small team of 3 or 4 will be a challenge.

Excellent How and Why Text
I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know the how and why of maintenance planning, coordination and scheduling, especially those wanting or needing to really sell this maintenance paradigm to upper management. A real keeper for my professional bookshelf.

The bible of Asset Management Planning & Scheduling
While this book is somewhat dated the core principals of P&S are deep rooted in this book. Newer computer system technologies can only expand the functional methods and theories outlined in this book. It is the bible of P&S.
