No..I'm 5'6" 145lbs and they were tight.

The hard plastic part goes on your palms. The straps should go on the back of your knuckles

I can't give you a difinitive answer. All I can say is that the pads use 2 types of retention methods. Velcro straps that can be adjusted. And a spandex like sleeve than can expand to fit. So if you want the pads to last a bit. I'd go for the medium if you're child truly is a bit bigger than average.

Q: Washing instructions???

These need to be hand washed with mild soap and water. Not the washing machine.
