Size:2-3 ft. The Pawnee Pecan is a medium sized pecan tree that matures to a height of 20-30 feet and a width of 15-25 feet. It is a perfect choice for the backyard where larger trees may not be appropriate. They also look elegant lining both sides of a driveway. The Pawnee Pecan makes a beautiful presentation in the landscape, since it stands regal and upright. A hardy and rigorous grower, even in colder climates, the Pawnee Pecan tolerates freezing temperatures quite well. It is a cross between the Mohawk Pecan and the Starking Hardy Giant Pecan. It is the only pecan tree with a high resistance to yellow aphids. Generally, two or more trees of different cultivars are recommended to cross pollinate. Pecan trees have been known to live, and bear edible nuts, for more than three hundred years. Pecans have many health benefits including their ability to help lower cholesterol levels. They are a good source of protein and unsaturated fats. Pecans are also rich in omega-6 fatty acids. The Pawnee Pecan produces large, buttery tasting, high quality nuts. You get approximately 55 delicious nuts per pound! Their thin shells make it easy to crack them open and enjoy the nut meat in desserts, salads, candy, and as a healthful snack eaten fresh right out of your hand. You and your family will delight in growing the Pawnee Pecan, and will reap the benefits of harvesting these wonderful nuts beginning in mid October. Just in time for the holidays!
