Flavor without FODMAPs Cookbook: Love the Foods that Love You Back

Nice to have during the FODMAP Elimination Process
Being put on the FODMAP elimination diet recently, I was thrilled and relieved to see a cookbook that would allow me to jump in and cook without having to read everything so carefully. I've made 8 recipes from this book so far with mixed results. The french toast (best made with spelt bread over other GF options, IMO) was fantastic (just don't oversoak your bread or it will start to fall apart). The banana pancakes are also good. I'm not a big baked banana bread/muffin person, but if you are, you will love them. The beef brisket was easy and convenient but just ok taste-wise (made ok sandwiches the next day). The zucchini quinoa muffins were just ok too. They have a slightly unpleasant smell to them (from the quinoa flour??). But I can get past that. What I didn't like was the occasional bites of crunchiness -- almost like very fine pieces of egg shell were in them. If you can identify what caused that yucky crunch (the cornmeal?? the round pecans?) and eliminate it, they would be quite good. My kids probably wouldn't go near them, but I'd be happy. The walnut-encrusted salmon was delicious, but rich, so don't eat a huge portion (if you have gallstones and gastro issues, like me, it may set them off). The chocolate pudding was good, easy and hit the spot since I was desperate for a treat! The buckwheat pancakes were not good. I made myself eat the ones I cooked but threw away the remaining batter. I also made the oven-baked fries and enjoyed them. I modified the recipe slightly by using a garlic-infused olive oil instead of plain and sprinkling fresh chopped flat-leaf parsley on them after cooking. The recipes for risotto with butternut squash and granola look good, as do other recipes in the book. I'll try more out next and update my posting. Bottom line: worth the money. Definitely. Good luck fellow IBS sufferers! (P.S. Some of nutritionist Ellie Krieger's recipes work for FODMAP or can be modified to fit the diet. Same goes for Giada's newer "healthy" cookbook if you pick through it. I recommend you review the recipes you already have been making over the years to see what works or can be modified for FODMAP. You'll have more immediate successes to blend in with the new recipes you're trying out.) P.S.S. I've also realized that I need to be patient and get used to the new tastes, smells and textures of different flours. You may find that too.

and as you get better, to begin to add in in very small ...
One of the most interesting cookbooks with a very positive approach to understanding the sugars that are very hard to digest and cause problems in "the gut" , a new experence for me....It is calming to have this cookbook...written by a compassionate, talented dietician, with it many delicous recipes and mealplans...It was exciting to see that this can be worked out...and as you get better, to begin to add in in very small amounts some of the things you have had to give up, for awhile.Maybe you were used to eating as much as you wanted of many common grocery items like garlic, onions, asparagras, cauliflower and a few others and it turns out , that the key might be a whole lot less, if at all, and not every day, the way it was!

Excellent Low-FODMAP Cookbook for Family Cooking
I was just diagnosed with a condition that requires that I limit my FODMAP intake, and I have purchased several cookbooks to help me in this new way of eating. Since I still have kids and a husband I cook for, I wanted a cookbook that would be family friendly and so far, of the several low-FODMAP cookbooks I've recently purchased, this is the only one with "normal" recipes that are suitable for the whole family. I tried the Macaroni and Cheese recipe and my kids loved it! You couldn't tell it was gluten-free or low-FODMAP, it tasted like my usual homemade Macaroni and Cheese.I can't wait for her new cookbook to be released. This book has been a Godsend for me.

Recommended ~ a good starting point.
This book gave a great concise summary of the low FODMAP diet. There are usable recipes which give a good jumping in point. I would have given it 5 stars if it had more recipes or ideas on recipe conversion to low FODMAP. I hav recommended Patsy Catsos' IBS Free At Last as well as this book.

Easy to understand.
The LOW FODMAP diet isn't hard to do, but it's contrary to our conventional eating approaches. This book makes sense of it and provides some nice recipes.

Good food and great resource for IBS and Low FOD-MAP ...
Good food and great resource for IBS and Low FOD-MAP recipes. I have made so many of the recipes that I now feel that I have a handle on my food problems and can create my own delicious dishes. Patsy Catsos is a lifesaver. Her books are amazing and the food is yummy!

A magical cookbook
My Husband is actually reading this cookbook. He bought groceries and is planning out his FODMAPs free meals. I couldn't care less about the recipes or how they taste (no idea). This book must be amazing if my husband is actually thinking about eating more than meat, potatoes and dairy products. There are vegetables in our refrigerator that he plans to eat.

Good info for celiac and IBS sufferers (and family)
My wife has both celiac disease and IBS, so the info and recipes will come in handy when I make our meals (I am the primary cook).

Completely disappointed. This looks like a book that was printed ...
Completely disappointed. This looks like a book that was printed in the 70's.Whilst there are over 100 recipes, there are only 12 photos and they are very poor quality photos in black and white!!In an age of media where image is king.. this just isn't acceptable for a cook book.Part of the excitement of cooking is seeing a good image of what the mouth watering recipe looks like!!Waste of money for me. Pity the cover made me buy it.

Nice Book, but Needs to be Updated
I really liked the book, but as others have said, it needs to be updated to reflect current thinking and practices. So many of the recipes included foods that I don't tolerate well. When you aren't feeling well is not the time to have to sort through ingredients looking for "safe" foods. I returned it.

Very disappointing
I love Patsy's book about FODMAPs and was waiting for her recipe book. However, I have been very disappointed and have decided to return it. Few of the recipes attracted my attention (one that did requires frozen hash browns which, in the UK at least, contain onions and onion powder, a no go for FODMAPs free), and I do not like the layout or format of the book. There are other great FODMAPs recipe books out there now, such as Sue Shepherd's Low FODMAPS Diet which I recommend.
